I don't see any connection between a possibly drunk person drowning in the Merced, and some climbers defecating on fellow climbers' ropes. One is an unfortunate, and probably preventable accident, while the other is a deliberate act fueled by hatred.

^^^ Agreed, but in a big picture point of view, both are pretty meaningless.

Kinda mis-leading title, but I watched it on Amazon, so I didn’t expect too much climbing.
All in all, I enjoyed it.
With that accent (and the name), I knew Aamon had to be from Utah. Kinda nice to get a bit of the back story on him as a up and coming ledgend. I know that he inspires me at least.
Good film, worth watching. Thanks for taking the time and effort to put it together and get it out there.

Never met Ammon. Read about him occasionally here on Supertopo - reports on his injuries.
Now I feel I know him and that makes the film worthwhile.

My review: Some people won't like it, but I did. Two thumbs up.
Uprated to 5 stars on amazon after I watched it again.

I gave Wings of Steel a try, but it is way way WAY too hard for me! No way am I willing to take the fifty-foot falls required to work out the hooking - I'm afraid of falling.
"For years, I remained mystified why some of the guys were so cruel, unencouraging and acting like we had to climb in a way that they approved with."
I think this was a prevalent attitude amongst the Yosemite "Locals" in the 80's and 90's, certainly I witnessed it when my Post-Divorce Renaissance began in 1995. Tomas Humar - one of the greatest climbers the world has ever known - came to Yosemite in '98 with the intention of soloing Reticent Wall, and nobody would even give him a topo. [I did, complete with annotations after we climbed it] :) Good ol' Tomas - with his bone-crushing handshake - sent the Reticent in great style.
The Valley seems a lot more accommodating and welcoming these days - folks seem to encourage each other more I think, and the Locals are far more welcoming to outsiders. I always try to be - but I am merely an "itinerant local".
Thoughts?
Cheers, and see yous on the bridge this fall for beers, eh?
P.S. ATG - you really need to need this post, a very compelling finale to the whole WoS story, where the "shitter" apologized and was forgiven. Real Men, for sure.

I think what Werner and others are saying is that it is so easy for an outsider to have a bad encounter with one or two locals, and then just label everyone else as being more or less the same way, even though everyone is different, and no one person really represents fully or even partially what the "local climbers" think and feel.
