That pup has one infectious smile! It is no wonder that you miss her. It was good you found each other. Her life was better because you were in it, and yours is better because she is in it.

Cheers Nature.

Steve (and everyone),
that's what i'm trying to relate. I am OK. It's emotional but it's time to move my energy of grief to the energy of the love I have for her and remember her for the amazing being she was. It's transformative.

yeah... her smile is infectious. she was the best dog ever.

Sita has a neat little personality she's developing. She was kind enough to share it with me and a friend last night :-)

blue... i'm glad you got to share that day with her.

nita, will do!

I remember when Summit first learned to swim at the Winslow Wall.

yo Joto...

can you tell what you remember about that day? i started writing her story. i forgot you were there for that. If I recall correctly I doubted her ability to swim - i expected her to sink :-).

She started to paddle with her butt sunk and water was splashing in her face. She didn't like that. Then she somehow raised her butt to float and started cruising.

I told the story to Milo last night about the number of times I'd swim in and out of there with her. Such sweet memories...

the best dog ever...

I read a book last week, A Soldier of the Great War, which unfolds as the story told to a young man by an old one. The narrator recalls many people who mattered in his life, most of them gone now and living only in his memory. But by telling their stories he is passing those memories on, so they might continue into the future.

Writing about Ms. Summit sort of echoed that idea, of keeping those we miss alive in memories.

I continue to write.

I traveled to Florida yesterday to be with my family. We began opening presents around 15 minutes to midnight.

A large box sat in the corner. it was for me. They were saving it for last.

In it were two wrapped gifts.

The first was a box of tissues.

Ohhhhh.... that is lovely, Nature. Summit was a beauty on earth, and her beautiful soul still shines.

Glad your plane finally got off the ground yesterday!

Honoring your loss and hoping it's not too irreverent to repost a poem I heard in a cartoon...

Meditations on Turning Eight
by Lisa Simpson

I had a cat named Snowball
She died! She died!
Mom said she was sleeping
She lied! She lied!
Why oh why is my cat dead?
Couldn't that Chrysler hit me instead?
I had a hamster named Snuffy
He died...
(at this point, Homer interrupts and the rest of the poem is unheard)

that made me cry and i never even met your dog.

i hope it is true, that all dogs go to heaven, or to big bright fields somewhere beyond, with fresh breeze and rabbits to chase.

RIP Ms Summit

What an awesome gift, doug.

Y'know, I miss her too, and I'm sure that Aussie was looking for her the last couple of times out.

I'll still never forget the time she scaled a 15' vertical wall that I couldn't even top out with climbing shoes on.

Totally burned off by a dog!
