Hi Lynne,

Well... except for the sun Oregon has lots to offer. (Unless employment is a requirement!) Mountains, snow, beaches, friendly people, healthy food places, pick your own farms, hot less than one week a year.

Bend is a place with climbing, rivers, etc. and housing is depressed there now. Not as much rain as POURtland and the coast.

I have lived in CA/ID/MT/GA(don't ask) and the UK but I am happiest here. I have been here for 15 years and have no plans of moving.

I vote east side. Get an extra big place with lots of rooms so we always have a room to crash in. ;)

This might be too many peoples around for you, but no yard work...

Maybe it would help if you listed the things you are looking for, and also other needs.

Climbing? or just nature? Community but not big city? How much community or isolation. Wanna make music? How much music scene?

How much is business or work/money a limitation? Need to be close to anybody or anyplace you know?

Spell how what's defined or open and it might help point you in the right direction

Peace

Yeah Lynne, you could sell the SD place and buy a climbers crash pad/retirement home on the Eastside! (I wish)
Too bad it's so damned expensive here.

I left SD as soon as I got out of high school:
#1 FLEAS SUCK
#2 No skiing
#3 Too Hot
#4 Too Crowded
#5 Dirty Air
#6 Sucky tap water
I only miss the beach a little, and the North Coast is much nicer.

Having a place to live is not that important though, something will come along. Home is where your heart is, and that can be anywhere.
Lee Vining is an awesome little town and you would fit in great! I may winter over here. Or the Valley. Or Mexico. Not sure yet. :)

I think this is very selfish of you!

Have you taken any time to think about how this is going to affect me?

I spend all last winter training you, and now that you have actually become fun to climb with, you want to leave me?

FINE!

Nothing on my list here.
It's Great Basin territory, from here to Grand Junction CO.

Lynne: organize and execute around written priorities.

Take some time to brainstorm and write down, on paper, the things that are important to you. TO YOU!. Include everything...health, relationships, money, whatever, but include it all.

It will all be easy after that. Good luck and all the best to you.

This is SO obvious, I can name that tune in One word: Sportsmobile!"

Lynne - It sounds to me like you can easily afford a rig like F10's or Zips. You must have gotten the tour of Zips rig by now. It even has, not one, but TWO showers!

Get a rig and hit the road, staying in these various places mentioned and beyond. Do it til your gut gives an indication as to whether or not it wants the burden of real estate, and if so, where.

Just like blind dates, nobody else can really pick a place to settle in for us.

Check out the San Juan Mountains in SW Colorado. There is this wonderful juxtaposition of high mountains and high desert. Super scenery, hiking, climbing etc. and the communities attract interesting people

I volunteer Portland, Oregon or vicinity. Its got a good economy, laidback atmosphere but still the city. Got the beach, the woods, and the mountains all within a hour drive. Not so far to Cali or Seattle. Great year round climate, cooler then Cali in the winter of course but not to harsh. Good people, good times, and housing is affordable.

Lynne,

You may want to consider the west slope of the Sierra. We live east of Placerville in the town of Camino aka Apple Hill. Moved here from Pacific Beach 31 years ago to live in the mountains for all that it offers; a change of seasons, Lovers Leap/Phantom Spires/Sugarloaf, BC & resort skiing, rivers etc. At 3000 feet we typically don't have to deal with snow/ice and we're above the valley fog. We have robust gardens & ponds on a ridge above the American River canyon. A great mix of trees only the west slope can offer.

One issue here is the summer heat although at 3,000 ft. it rarely reaches a 100 degrees but it is hot June through Sept. I'm sorry I didn't take the time to introduce myself at the memorial, hope you find what you're looking for like we did. It's a great community with good souls.

Lynne,
Best of luck with your upcoming move. You might want to consider the Northeast. It's got just what you're looking for.. mountains(well, hills compared to whatcha got out west) and water(it falls out of the sky almost everyday here). :)

Here's another vote for traveling around and checking out new places until you find one that calls to you. Keep trusting your gut - it's never wrong.

Thanks All !!! I've been packing up and throwing away all morning. If I find a buyer I'll be READY!

Virgin Gorda,,,,,,yeah been there a couple times. I love the Caribbean but it's to far from yo guys. I actually would like to have a sailing adventure before I cash it in.

And Zip ...... I value laughter too much, I'll be around. Please tell Happie Girl I did not even know your van had a shower, much less two. I have only Driven in Zip's van. Hey, I have a reputation to protect :DD

I Really appreciate All the suggestions and the planning tips.
