Today there is a program with Python source code available.
It also uses a graphics library I believe Tkinter. Programmers
today know that SPAM mail is uncontrollable with pymail.
I believe it's a $200.00 fine for each SPAM mail if proven
in court which is unlikely. We recommend just deleting the
messages and not wasting time.
Posting somebody's name on assumption which is not fact
could cause more serious damages to the person whom thinks
they are right by exposing others.

Gobee comes to mind.
Proselytizing born agains are far worse than people selling widgets. Although his non religious posts are pretty damn good.

On a different thread I suggested there should be a exemption to the constitutional prohibition against cruel and unusual punishment for litterers of public property. Hanging them up by their thumbs is appealing; so is taking them out back, lining them up and then summarily shooting them. Well, the same thing should apply to spammers. In that case, perhaps hanging by the toes might be an effective way to deal with them. How about one minute of hanging for each spam sent out to someone's computer.
Mailwasher Pro is an excellent tool versus spam. I am quite pleased with it. You blow the stuff away before it ever reaches your machine.

I guess it would be pointless to suggest that maybe, just maybe, a technical solution to the problem is in order?
Hint: pattern analysis. All the spam thus far shares common traits. It is in fact quite easy to eliminate completely.
Oh ok...
The approach I usually take is to develop a set of patterns to indicate likelihood of spam. In this case the patterns might include:
1. Newly registered user and/or <n posts
2. Improper use of the [ url ] tag
3. A set of a few key words commonly seen in the spam so far
I assign a score to each of these patterns based on their value as an indicator of spam. I then set thresholds at which the post is either canned, held for review, or allowed to pass through. More likely you don't want to delete anything if you have the time to review -- in this case it's far less time than is currently spent chasing them down.
A CAPTCHA is useless here because this forum is proprietary and therefore these aren't robots. Not to say someone wouldn't or couldn't automate post submission, but I think if you review the logs you'll find that's not indicated.
If I were assigning this work to a developer I'd be generous and give them an hour or two, including time to test.
But I'm wasting my words, aren't I?
