Us ole Moms always worry about our climber sons... he looks good!!... good to know that you and Merry take him into account often. Will look forward to seeing you all in a month or so after this 'social climber' goes off track... Again, thank you for the photo!! be safe/stay well~~

Dear Mom
You are so lucky to have such a nice son as Philip. Yesterday evening we had to carry a man who broke his foot in Little Yosemite Valley to the Valley floor and Philip came and helped in very bad conditions. It was a very long, cold and wet carryout. We left at 8 pm and returned at 1:30 in the morning.
This man is now requiring surgery for his injuries.

Werner - Philip sketchly related the carryout. I knew it was a long way in and raining; of course I asked if he had a jacket and his reply was that 'I was fine, Mom.' He is a man of few words; takes his work very seriously. I have never known Philip to complain or quit anything! So nothing surprises me anymore. I just keep hoping a permanent position will open up for him there in Yose... it is his first love. Believe it or not, his first trip over the Tioga was at 10 months old... there was a wall of snow 8 - 15 feet high the plows had cut out to open the pass (probably will be repeated this year). We'd been fishing at Rock Creek without a bite.. so over the pass... folks were cross country skiing over the lake and anyplace else one could find a pull out. It was crazy! Little did I ever dream he would grow up to actually live in such a magical place. He has the utmost respect for you and Merry; I count myself fortunate that he has such good mentors and fellow climbers. Again, looking forward to seeing you when I get to the valley. be careful/stay well - jj
