Dmalloy, I saw that but, you're right, the OHV stuff continued.

Wes, that was a nice story but where is the OHV relevance?

Sorry dirtbag, flashlight is the only I have used since its inception.

I saw a guy cut off another guy pulling into the post office. They both happened to park in adjacent spots. The guy that got cut off had skidded so far he probably flat-spotted his tires. Anyway, he got out, went over to the offending party, stuck out his hand and said, "Don't worry about it, mistakes happen." He was so kind and forgiving because he WASN'T a jackass liberal.

I got it. You were pointing out that we shouldn't jump to conclusions about people and tag them with labels and stuff.

Like, 'He is a '9/11 Truther'...that sums things up pretty well'

What we have here, with this guy who lost it, is a tragedy. A personal tragedy that spilled out of himself and to his family> when his family couldn't deal any more this tragedy spilled out into the world. The family has probably been watching this for years, we see it now.

And now that it's into world, we take an example that is not unique, but totally personal, and we put our personal politics into it.

Liberal, conservative how can life be divided into one of two things? Everything we do, is damn hippies and f*#kin' fascists.

How does this apply here? The guy has serious mental problem and it's OHV'ers vs hippies. What about hippie OHV'ers? What about fascist hippies.

The world can't be divided into one of two things, just because the political parties want us to be.

I'm starting to sound like this guy they arrested, but seriously the only difference between this paranoid schizo, is that we sober up and don't feel like blowin' sh#t up anymore.

Tom

Oh yeah, and you philosphers out there might be able to divide the world into one of two things, but I'm about politics.

Tom, I'm just sayin'his MySpace page was pretty telling of a mentally unstable and dangerously paranoid person.

Otherwise, I pretty much here ya.

We should be able to arrest people based on their MySpace rants. (kidding).

Oh, also, there is an appropriate saying that applies to paranoia and mental instability, "The eye that alters, alters all".

I'll let you guys figure out what that means......

His rants on the my space seem unfortunatley common for people who lose it. He's not officially implicated in the recent arsons, but the difference here is that he acted on this.

I don't know why these things happen. There are plenty of folks who lose it. They don't like their meds because they know the meds change them and they think they need to let themselves live free and natural, problem is what they feel is themselves not on heavy drugs can be dangerous to self and others.

Fortunately this guy didn't hurt any body.

Us vs. them is so dangerous because in the end there is only us.

I'm sorry this thread devolved into an anti-OHV argument, which wasn't really my intention. I hate to see any discussions derail senselessly and that's exactly what's happened. Thanks to Tom for keeping us posted (and grounded), and dmalloy for injecting some rationale early on.

I'm going to be working with the Eastern Sierra Interpretive Association on a web page for fund raising to get the Visitor Center rebuilt, so I'll post a link here when that's done next week. Hopefully the pinkos and brownshirts can come together for the occasion. Cheers.

Funny - while I'm posting this, an ad for Arctic Cat Snowmobiles shows at the top of the page. I want one!

All it takes is a few hours (with a faulty regulator on your bottle).

JOhn's been at altitude -on 7 Summits. And deprived of oxygen for too long in the past..

I knew him in high school and Scouts.,,,, in the 70's and recently, on Whitney,in 22 hours, in the early 90's. And Shasta on New Year's Day 1990.

He dragged me up there.

Was always driven to summit everything. Just a good soul that fell, in the past.

He was my friend.

Some of us fall farther than others.
Sucks, but that's life.
