I was gonna offer advice until I thought about #46 having his way with you. I mean, hey.... last year it was crimpie. What better way to save Callie the anguish of another #46 encounter than to find another mate for him.
Lynne... we'll have stove a plenty. Honestly... if you are in yellow pines for the duration don't worry about a stove. I have a cot that I could probably bring a long.
Need a flashlight? Hmm.. I have a small one burner propane lantern you can borrow. Screws on top of a propane bottle.

Hey guys, just got back from trial run in Tuolumne. Weather incredible on the super great side ! Climbing xcellent.
Cots Gone.....really and truly.....
Tents today are scary.
I pulled up the stakes on my loaner whilst packing to go home. A breeze came up and except for a fortunately placed pine tree it would have soared like an eagle into the river valley FARRRRR below. Thinking van for the lift.
Open to names of COMFORTABLE bouldering pads, big smiles due to being back from a great short trip. lrl

Howdy, Nature....bet you're busy gearing up ! Thanks for thinking of me. I will be there for the duration, a whole wonderful week. Most important for this gal is coffee in the a.m. FIRST thang. Does your stove get up early ?
If you are still on the ST ethernet now, do I email you for the Sushi fest ?
Gave up cots, but thanks, #46 can use it ...is he nice?

The drill each morning will be as follows:
A 5 gallon stainless steel pot will be sitting on top of the stove (filled from the night before). A smaller one will be next to it. Please light both. The smaller one is for your quick fix on coffee. The larger to feed the masses their dose of caffeine.
I have two #6 cones and 2 carafe's to go long with it. Plus a thermos or three.
A large ladle will adorn the 5 gallon stainless pot. We'll use that to pour water over the precious ground bean. Flavors yet to be determined (but I like mine hot black and bitter - no cream/sugar).
First one up light the stove please. A lighter at the end of the cord that is attached to said stove better stay there.
I'm serious about feeding people coffee.
Oh... and there's also a glass carafe we can put milk in. Soy can stay in the box. Real sugar or Agave syrup also available. Tea and Yerba Mate too if needed.
After that's all said and done we'll fire up the griddles for french toast and pancakes.
Maybe eggs to order plus potato's one morning.
Oh... and just ignore the fact that my eyes are fully bloodshot and I need toothpicks to keep 'em open. Looks are deceiving. Blame Fatty for my hangover.
PS - Crimpie sez #46 is nice but I suppose it depends on your definition of nice.

I usually have my stove/french press going as soon as I get out of bed...even before peeing!!!
Coffee is essential in the morning, 2 cups...followed by beer the rest of the day laced with mandatory H20 hydration. That's just me though.

Bluering, I took several pictures of the rock on Puppy Dome as per your request on another thread. A few are now posted on the TM thread I just posted. I took more of the area just past Puppy Crack and the small weedy gully. Let me know if you want me to email. Lynne

Lynne - I'm sure you've got all this info before this, but...
Tent - North Face or Mountain Hardware (if you got that kind of cash). I've had my MH tent for a couple years now and it's easy to put up, nearly falls together once I start the motions. Started out with a couple different Kelty's, both not big enough for be and the (at the time) pad I had.
Cot - Not needed. Think of minimalist camping. You're way better off getting the TOP OF THE LINE Thermarest. It has an air pad under a foam pad all in a zippered fleece lined cover. Nothing better, in my opinion. Not to mention, with a cot you have the feet of the cot that could poke holes in that niec new tent of yours! Watch out.
Lantern - Look around. You can go with whatever fits you needs. I go with a headlamp.
Stove - Coleman. And there are too many to mention. That one you got was pretty much the bext I've seen in a while. You got rid of that?
As for th4e instruction reading, I would suggest getting the new stuff home and opening it up and using it immediately. Put it all together a couple times if needed. You do have the capacity to learn something even if you cannot get it at first.

Edit: Same for you Indianclimber. I am currently a minimalist car camper myself and have no issues with my set up, 'cep I don't have a stove. Still waiting for a need for that. It just seems that everywhere I stay is relatively close to stores and or diners.

Hi Indianclimber, Glad you asked cause alot of Taco people put time and effort into helping me....and they did help me BigTime!
1) How big is the vehicle ?
2) There are a zillion tents out there. I borrowed two for my first two expeditions. Will your daughter be doing walk in and backpacking primarily or pull into the campground in her car.
a) Check out thrift stores. My daughter got a great tent for $20 at one. A really great tent.....
b) Need a small light one for backpacking or walking in. Downside small and you can't stand up in it.
c) Car camping, get one you can stand up in. Worth it. Even hardcore Casey from New Mexico who did the West Face 19 pitches with Papjoto told me that !
d) Accidentally got a great stove at Target. Had a nice big burner on one side and a grill on the other. Even this dweb could set it up and put it together. Coleman and Not expensive..@$20.
e) Again if you ask and listen people like Casey will give you good advice. He told me to go to a RV store and get a refillable Propane Tank for the stove. Why buy the little tanks from camping stores and then throw them away. GREAT advice.
f) Tents need a groundcloth and small hand broom....Home Depot. At night need to keep H2O and a headlamp in the tent.
g) ALL OF THE TACO WAS RIGHT, COTS NEVER NEEDED NOWADAYS.
h) Get a good wide Thermarest mattress.
i.) ice chest
j) minimal amount of cookware.

OOPS ! If you daughter likes espresso or coffee there are some Great gadgets out there. Ask the Supertopo.

Oh, yeah, forgot to say listen to Jingy's comments. Totally agree with them. He's helped me mucho !
Never used my lantern...I had a great headlamp and backup flashlite.

Indianclimber, tent is the hardest, at least it was for me. I was gonna buy a $1500 4 season tent....glad I listened to the Taco. Instead I borrowed a walk in tent and a car tent. Unless you have unlimited funds, borrow some tents and see what works for you. There are SO many shapes and sizes ...ease to set up, etc.
You can even rent expensive tents for @ $5 a night at climbing stores to test them out. Recommend testing before buying...REALLY.

You are out to enjoy the wilderness, not to bring home with you and change the wilderness. LESS IS BETTER.
