jerry-- i really doubt it includes the internet. it seems to be aimed at eliminating photos previously published by, say, other outdoor gear companies or maybe one of the mags. if you eliminate every photographer whose uploaded an image to their flickr page, you'd not have many entrants.

sure, the internet--more specifically, this commercial chat room-- is nominally "public," but then so are the picnic tables in camp 4.

HK,

If you read my post, you would see I said it might not be the exact same photo, just same contents. Go see.

Oh, the same photo is indeed not there now. But in the stock photo world, we deal with "Similar's" and this would absolutely qualify. Call it related, or whatever. And as to the internet, I've had magazines not publish my photos because I posted them on this very site. So, to me, the language is very clear.

Gotta run, ya'll have fun.

So Jerry - even if you are correct, what's your motivation for bringing this up?

Jody is KNOTT a professional photographer, and he is quite pleased to have won the contest
and to get $1000.00 worth of gear for images that otherwise would have languished in obscurity.

And if he is indeed being so grossly exploited or taken advantage of, more power to him if he bent the rules.

Hardman,
I think Jerry was just ribbing him for breaking the rules when he is a hired rule enforcer.
Yes, those terms apply to internet forums. I have had images nixed because of it.
I am still sad he got taken to the washers when he shoots some nice stuff.

This thread WAS intended as a joke leading into Jody winning the photo contest . I figured most would realize the spoof when they saw the thread title and click on it for humor's sake (re: the "El Cap Bridge" posts Jody made earlier this week). Jody is fine. I don't remember much about El Cap bridge, in Yosemite, but the chances of two serious photographers getting into a fight at a bridge in Grand Teton N.P., on any given day, are about one in thirty six billion. But to those who expressed concern about Jody's well being, thanks.

If Jody is contentious (see explanation) he's on the right forum (no explanation necessary).

Reserve caution when judging Jody or anyone on an online forum. Sometimes the harmony-gang come out as celebrated and those who express sincere conviction get disdain. Jody is a pleasant, humorous and well intentioned guy. Whenever a friend needs him, he's there and when someone at work or in the community needs assistance he's there to help.

From my observation, Jody disputive posts usually come after belligerent, over the top statements from others. Try civility first.....

Yes, Jody is a tall, darker haired guy. Now what's this issue with short red-haired people?

Thats a better topic Knott.

I really am glad Jody won and all.But look. A cop signs an affidavit saying his photo has never been publicly viewed, wins the contest, spouts off about it and gets punched. (Well I guess that never happened?) But anyhow, it's just funny to know that he'd already shot himself in the foot. The contest is a hoot with those terms, and then they wrote "Above the Fray" next to the photo, when clearly he's in the thick of it. Like him or knott, its pretty ironic and I got a good laugh when I realized this last night. I wasn't going to say anything, but L's comment set me off.

The thing that gets me isn't Jody at all, its how the industry is cutting corners, making it damn near impossible for a photographer to make a living. I've been e-mailing Jody from time to time regarding exactly these kinds of publishing ploys, and am a bit disappointed in him for even contributing, but you're right, he isn't a pro, and doesn't need the money, so good for him and congratulations. Really.

BTW, Knott, I have some stuff I need to get to you. Lets talk.

Hi Jennie,

As I stated I usually get right out of Jody threads as well as threads infected by Jody. That being said I do not have a lot of evidence to counter this statement by you.

“From my observation, Jody disputive (I think you mean disruptive) posts usually come after belligerent, over the top statements from others. Try civility first.....”

Except for the last post I saw from him, on side by side ethics topic.

“"Up is up.

Down is down."

Speaking of arrogant, self-righteous, self-centered egotists.”

This in my book was an unprovoked personal attack toward J.B. It seems to have come from Jody not liking J.B.’s post. Up until that point I do not believe there were any personal attacks anywhere on that thread. From someone who does not know him (me), it really makes him look like a stereotypical obnoxious brat. Actually in most threads I have seen him post on I think I must have seen the same thing as my previously stated perception indicates.

That is a very nice picture. Too bad his words are not as pleasing to most. It is nice to hear that in person to friends and family he is a good guy.

As to redheads? I have nothing against them. That was just how I pictured Jody.

Prod,

J.B. and Jody are actually friends. Personally, I believe their online scuffle was just friends posturing against each other in humor. On ST, sometimes it's difficult to detect the mock arguments from the real.

Jody was irritated over the statement about Half Dome being "raped" (made by another poster), and got into the quarrel, earlier.

Being entitled to your own judgements, I think you might change your mind about Jody if you were acquainted with him beyond ST hissing matches.
