So, my little bro is heading west with his girlfriend to CO on Tuesday to live in a nice place. My dad moved there last year and his dog is a litter mate of my dog Tioga.

I'm thinking of getting a toy and rubbing it all over Ti, and then sealing it up in a zip lok bag to send to Lance (my dad's dog). Not sure if Lance will even notice, but it's a cool thought.

So, after a year apart, they are six years old and spent their first five years together, do you think that Tiogas scent will affect Lance?

RockLzrd, dude, always a fan of the shepherds, especially given a good human.

Brandon, yes, absolutely. Might summon some mixed emotions, but yes.

Cragman! That juxtaposition of a loose-hipped red-butt heeler and a purebred yellow lab pup laid out on the green, green grass really struck a chord with me. My old boy Augustus (a 115 lb beast of a lab, in his prime) was the older brudda to my little heeler of strikingly similar marking (minus the mid-back blotch of red) and hip disposition.

We put Augustus (Gus) to sleep, in comfort and wreathed in love, on that green, green grass where he lay so many sunny days with my heeler-child, Zap. Striking coincidence from a random 'net photo. Normally I hate it when people share random web pics here but this one really grabbed me. Thank you Cragman.

Great lives, those of the American dog, for the most part. I am impressed daily by Zap's continued strength and desire despite a major, unhealed (first toe, front left paw) tendon snap. And also by the variety and serious quality of adventures we have shared. We are headed, soon, for a mega-venture of epic proportion, ambition, and separation from the indoor life. I could hardly expect a human to measure up, ever. Thank dog for dogs.

And yeah, Tolman_P, your dog has heeler-specked forelegs. I like!

That biker has probably been chased by Dobermans before, and he couldn't pass up a chance for a little pay-back.

It is a sad day today. We gave Boris his well deserved rest. He was such a good dog and will be sorely missed. He couldn't get up the stairs anymore and we slept with him on the living-room floor last night. His was a struggle recently and now he can chase those sqirrels again. As tears fly skyward.

Sorry for your loss Wayno. Sounds like he lucked out with the human he picked. Good work on that whole dog-parentage thing (not always easy).

And Masha, that is a proud pose for any dog.

Sorry Wayno and Masha. I'm sure you knew when it was the right time to take that final responsibility. It's always one of the hardest things we ever do, but our pets know that we loved them to the end.
