Bluering, I acknowledge your humanity. Some of the Muslims I know are the most righteous people I've ever met. For example two brothers that I know; one is a DA in Texas and the other a top cop in DC. Really righteous dudes. I'm sure that you'd like them. (You fukr)

Apogee, I think that I caused a serious ground squirrel overpopulation when I mistakenly let them get into a huge bag of dog food one season. The hawks stayed there hunting for months. I pictured a russian winter on that ground squirrel hillside. Good luck .

Pet insurance has been a good deal for us on several occasions. Just like people, your pets can run up large bills in a hurry if something goes wrong (and you're not ready to just let them go). Also like people, it's better to sign up before they have some "pre-existing condition" that won't be covered later.

Max has had a couple of episodes in the last several days where he seems to lose balance, and stumbles slightly, followed by a somewhat unsteady gait for a few minutes. Today's episode also exhibited very slight tremors.
At the first episode, I thought perhaps he had encountered some kind of toxin- he had refused a treat about 30 minutes prior, however he voraciously ate breakfast afterward. Both episodes I've noticed thusfar have been in the morning.
Toxins seem less likely, though, as his diet is very controlled, and he is almost always very close. He doesn't really exhibit signs of intoxication, either- he remains pretty much normally attentive, normal diet, no drooling or salivating, stool is normal.
I'm thinking more likely to be some kind of genetic neurologic issue- since he's a rescue, I don't know his true roots...could easily have been some kind of puppy mill where all kinds of genetic weirdness happens. He's only about 4-5 years old.
Gonna keep a close eye on him for a while, but as such neurologic/seizure disorders can be relatively common in some dogs, I'm curious about others experiences in diagnosing & managing them.

ASPCA. Under the plan we had, they covered about half of Jack's ACL surgery, something like $1500 out of $3000 (ouch anyway). The coverage specified accidents, not illnesses, and that qualified. But when our other dog got an infection, unfortunately, we paid the bill for that ourselves even though we thought it likely came from fighting with something wild (unproven). You get what you pay for in dog insurance just like anything else, accident+illness is available at a higher price.

Try an over-the counter treatment for tapeworms. My Labrador has had what we thought were seizures that were caused by tapeworms.
Don't know if it will help, but in my case it was an easy fix.

Hmmm....interesting. How dramatic were the seizures? Ever get any kind of pharmacologic reason as to why it worked?
Max's events have been very mild (so far)...a slight loss of balance/stumble, followed by a very few, slight tremors.

I thought she was dead! She was stiff, her gums were grey, and her tongue was almost black. She couldn't walk, or even move much.
She probably had some symptoms before the big seize, but because she spends her days laying around sleeping, I didn't notice anything wrong until she didn't show up for dinner

I have a cat with similar symptoms and it's because of heart disease. If his heart slows down too much, he faints and then pants and then has a seizure just before waking up. Asthma meds speeded up his heart rate and now he's ok.

patty ann marie, the ol' pup-dog here, has been busy with eye-out for
little rabbit, that had took to eating up the beans, here, but--it is fenced out, i hope, now... :)
but she is still vigil for:
it, squirrels, and chipmunks, and--
had even CAUGHT a mouse, like yours did, chaz, :))
