In a Reuters article about the ongoing drama on the Norwegian coast some phi beta kappa
journalist, who must get paid by the word, wrote:
“Norway is considering safety improvements for those traveling along its extensive coastline, including preliminary plans for a giant ocean tunnel through a mountain near the spot where the Viking Sky had halted.”
Yeah, that will definitely improve maritime safety, huh?
Have the aliens taken over at Reuters too?

I've noticed that The Guardian has lots and lots of misspellings and grammatical errors. I just sort figure that--given the 24/7 frantic nature of the news cycles, especially with the constantly flapping gums and twitchy Twitter fingers of the current "president"--every source wants to be the first to report on whatever the latest forehead-slapper of a story is. Ain't no time to proofread with that kind of a rush to post, apparently.
But I do like the idea of an ocean tunnel through a mountain. I think I'd like to see that for myself!

I gotta say it was an experience going through the Atlantic Ocean Tunnel that comes up at Kristiansund (close to the ongoing situation) last summer. No translation was needed for being 820’ below the sea floor for 3.5 miles! Did I mention you could eat off the walls or ceiling?
The Norskies are building a 25 km undersea tunnel down by Stavanger as we speak!

Jeebus Reilly, are you off your meds again? Ya just gotta let go of some of this stuff...
We just had a Washingtonian get-together at Joshua Tree a couple weeks ago. If i’d been thinking, I would have invited you. Dave Davis, Dave Dailey, Rich Carlstad and others were there. Eleven total. These guys do this every year and this was my first time attending. Ellie Hawkins even showed up one afternoon. Good times.
I always try to proofread my crap but I invariably flush the toilet too soon..

Maybe it's a cultural/language processing issue?
We have become dumber and dumberer in America when it comes to parsing longer sentences. Business English is a series of one clause sentences, with occasional two-clausers to spice things up. My wife from Italy perceives this writing style as if it's an elementary school kid. Italians tend to be very comfortable with lengthy sentences that contain many clauses. I recall really struggling when reading The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco, until my brain started adapting a few hundred pages in. I just am not accustomed to allocating that much memory to sentence parsing, and would forget the beginning before I finished understanding the end. Also, I tend to get hung up about the precedence and nesting of clauses, wishing we used parenthesis to be more clear like a computer programming language.

Don, thanks for thinking of me, now. I went off the meds, they only made me crankier. 😉
Todd, when you spend 8-12 hours a day for 9 months (with 4 days off for good behavior) at a hospital or caring for someone then I’ll take your observations on boredom under advisement. But thanks for yer concern.

Thanks for caring for someone else Reilly, if that’s what you do. Send your observations to the author (if they’re someone you care about) and maybe they’ll take them under advisement.
And thanks for spelling words right and stuff! Other people have their own stuff going on, whether it’s policing grammar, or caring for other people, and sometimes they’re just paying attention to different stuff than we are.
