My gut feeling is that it was a situation-specific coinage. Jim certainly seemed inordinately proud of it in the aftermath.

The hardest 5.8 is likely 5.9 and the easiest 5.8 is no doubt 5.7. Climbs speak for themselves, the numbers attached to them are arbitrary and should only be used as a rough guide. [sic]

Blue Camalot, always works don’t climb without one. It’s all you’ll need.
Pretty stoked climbing Moose Dog Tower in JT with Jim. I brought him up to a belay with just a Blue Camalot. All he could do was smile. It was actually a pretty windy day there and he mumbled something about the Col of Conquest
