If NPS Search had done like the current POTUS, Trump, usually do in his private life, they would have sued the blasting father... which I think would be a very bad act...

I guess they didn't prey good.

Well, the fact that he is missing could mean that somebody did.

Thank you, Jim.

I deleted my post, because upon reflection, I think I'd slightly stepped over the line.

while I've had many occasions where I've been critical of SAR operations, I generally think they do the bast possible, generally in very unfortunate circumstances. In the heat of the moment, I think they deserve support of their efforts.

It is true that family in such situations suffer from a type of hysteria, combined with a sense of fantasy.

Man, this cadet took off in basically sweats in winter conditions....Pretty tough to survive exposed conditions. Parents are upset SAR efforts weren’t what they expected and Dad goes public?! It just seems people have no sense of responsibility anymore. I get it, I’m a parent, if my son did this I would have to also question the reasoning behind that kind of decision. Dad is asking a lot of people to be put in harms way, for a questionable decision made by his Son, who as a cadet, should have good skills at making critical calls! Very unfortunate for family, “but don’t make two errors on the same play”.

Clearly, there is a puzzle piece missing here.

Was the missing son suicidal? Crazy? Really upset about something? Ignorant? Just plain stupid? Girlfriend yelled at him? [I have grown a thick skin of late] Darwinian Anti-Selection? Something else?

[Comments based on attire and comments of last to see him]

So sad. I hope they find the guy's body to bring closure.

Condolonces for the parents and their son...It seems like more stoopid Americans are venturing out onto the snow and back country in their best mall shopping attire...I drove by a group of Asians playing in a snow berm on the side of the road near an avalanche gully...Film at 11...

Jim Brennan - I hope they find the poor bastard's body so he can be declared legally dead and they can collect life insurance, otherwise they have to wait seven years. And without a body the parents will continually wonder what happened, like the folks of Matthew Green who disappeared in the Sierra.

My latest rant is about closure being regarded as some kind of magic word that ends all questions and resolves all grief

I've been to a few funerals, including my Dad's. I'm atheist but do credit most religions for the methods they have developed to make understandable the fact of death. I don't agree with their ideas, but they certainly have made it easier for the bereaved to accept what has happened and offer support. One thing that has struck me in a very positive way at wakes is the laughter and jokes and how they make accepting death easier for the loved ones. A little bit of wine certainly doesn't hurt either.

As for this guy, what was he thinking? I've told people on trails the same sorts of things about difficulty, gear, daylight, weather, etc. and received the blank stares back; just shook my head and kept going down. At least I tried.

Matthew Green who disappeared in the Sierra.
The terrain this Matthew Green guy was lost in is about 100x more remote and complex than around Longs. They will 95% find this guy before spring, if not in the next week or two - 100% certain by June.

That's what I mentioned above. The people at the trailhead and especially the encounter on the trail seem a bit too convenient. And who knows what was in the small blue pack.
It would be ironic if the dad got his military presence and it ended in a court martial.

Gumby, you can’t be court martialed for running away from yer prep school. 🙄

And, FWIW, you can leave THE Academy up to the end of yer soph year without probs.

If memory serves, the students at USAFA Prep ARE technically 'active duty'.

The AF Academy candidates are considered active duty.

The operative word is ‘considered’, or more accurately ‘treated as such’.
It is no more than that, not that it really matters, especially for him now.

Ryan Albert, 30 from New Jersey has been missing up there since October.
Didn't know - 2 dead bodies up there - right now - that's more exciting than pokemon or geo caching. I bet traffic at that trailhead doubles until they find these guys.

I'd guess Ryan is at the base of the Trough, Micah hugging the trunk of a tree somewhere in the Goblins Forest area.

I know that I am probably preaching to the choir, but RNMP SAR are totally professional and very good at a hard job. I think in a free society people should be allowed to be suicidally stupid in their endeavors, as this cadet clearly was. I can also feel for the father's grief and have compassion for him, but I am still calling him out for a totally irresponsible diatribe against RNMP SAR who typically go into harm's way for the benefit of others.

Be safe out there people, you are all valuable members of this tribe.
