Anyone out there that would be willing to part with a Forrest Mjollnir ice pick to help out a collector friend of mine who occasionally posts here? He isn't overly fussy about condition so let us know what you might have.
Cheers

I have a few versions but no "spares".

Aren't those picks fairly common (and cheap) on ebay?

Their ice axe uses the same picks as the hammer if I recall correctly.

nuststory: interesting that that ad doesn't show the tubular pick any longer. Must've been short-lived.

Tarbuster, the Tube Pick is only mentioned in the 1980 catalog.

Yeah, that figures.
After reading this bit of literature you posted, I also just realized that Forrest claims the innovation of interchangeable/replaceable picks.

He says it was instituted in order to heat treat the picks separately, to make them unbreakable.
I had one of his earlier Mjollnir hammers and the head/pick was all one piece. And yes, the pick broke!

Bob- It is clear that the picks for the Mjollnir hammer are different from those on the Lifetime axes Which do you actually have?

Steve - I believe it is an axe handle Mjollnir based on the pictures by Nutstory of Mjollnir and Tarbuster of Lifetime.

Hey Bob- I just wanted to make sure that you had the hammer and not an axe as that is how you described it to me. Lifetime ice axe picks are much harder to find as the Mjollnir hammer sold very well for Bill.

If you have a hammer with you, even in the bottom of the haul bag, it's not clean Russell!

I still have a Mjollnir and a couple of those picks.

While this thread is still current, I just bought a Forrest Lifetime axe in mint shape but oddly lacking any picks. If anyone has picks for this particular tool in decent condition that they would be willing to part with please let me know.

Russ is your best bet for a rock pick upthread. Do you have a Lifetime pick with the holes at a diagonal or Mjollnir pick?

I think the reason the hammer sold so well is that it made a great "third" tool to carry on ice climbs if you busted or dropped one of your two primary tools.

I always liked that hammer. In the old days you pounded iron all day long, and I liked it’s lightness. Mine is all rounded from use. Forest invented a lot of cool stuff.

Anyone do a wall with a pin bin?

if those don't find a home & you'd be so inclined?
I have the tool in similar condition & would be thrilled to build out my meager collection

Just back from the frozen shed where the Ice gear bin has been.
The sad patina says it all.

Johntp;
Yes, I was asking after your picks

I've a bucket full of belay devices, from running programs2 Stitch plates with Springs and mixed diameter holes,4 Clog brand; the nice ones; all rounded no edges.

Anyone do a wall with a pin bin?

Never was a wall rat, but remember them. BITD owned quite a bit of Forrest gear. Unfortunately a lot got lost in the move after the divorce. He had a great version of the sticht plate that I used for years.

If I can figure out a suitable kit, gloves? & boots?, I would be fully stoked to swing some tools.
I think I'm good on 'pons and the one modern Tool! well a 30-year-old modern tool(bent shaft?).
The modular Charlet Moser that I hid in a box of chocolates & sent to her at her office for Valentine's day.
The shed is frozen and I only knew to grab the one bin. I'll go after that tool tomorrow.

Saw some Stich plates in gnomes photo.

You could do anything with one of those. They were great. Far better than most later devices.

Yes!

Some of the later model variants on those sticht plates with springs worked very nicely, especially for rapelling, giving a very cushy ride.
Smoother for belaying as well, and less prone to lock up when compared to the DMM beta brake, which was still pretty nicely produced with its rounded edges.
