This guy has a bunch of old ice axe picks available. Maybe you could help identify the ones below aside from the early Hummingbirds. Bill Coe and I snagged the extra Forrest Mjollnir picks - let us know if you need one of those. But we could still use two of the Mjollnir tubular ice picks if anyone has extras of those and would like to sell or trade.

Look how aggressive the teeth are on the picks on the upper left and lower right.
Seems like those would stick really bad (too well), hard to remove...
They might be from the Forrest Lifetime tools.

It looks like the tube picks are Forrest as well:

That ad really helps; if you look at the spare picks on the right side of the ad, you'll see all the pics in your original post appear to be Forrest...

... I guess I get the gear geek of the week award!

Man, those Lifetime tools SUCKED!!! You had to have hands the size of Alaska just to get your fingers all the way around the handles. When my buddy accidentally left mine in a snowbank at the end of the day I was bummed about the $$ but psyched they were gone.

Nice sculpture, in a gaudy sort of way; too bad the chrome plating would peel off.

I think it's Rick Willcox that has a picture of himself with one on the summit of Everest. The adz was broken off. I hope he got it replaced.

Didn't the Mjolnir win some sort of industrial design award, BITD? I think I've got one or two of those in the attic as well.

I think the picks in the upper left photo were
the Forrest "Vector"

I use my Lifetime axe for chopping ice off the sidewalk. There are a few other museum pieces hanging in my garage.

I have a set of Lifetimes sitting here in my gear room right now. They were the best, they were the worst. I still have bumps from hitting the ice with the backs of my fingers while climbing with those things, 25 years later!

I've got a set of "lifetimes" exactly as in picture. They're going onto ebay soon. Anyone know what year that add was? I've guessed around 1980 but not sure.

yea about knuckle bashing. For the era the picks actually stuck pretty well (needed a little file work for easier removal), but they are too short and knuckles paid the price.

I've also got a Mjolnir, but it serves as both my wall hammer and third ice tool these days so no go.

I know 'ringtailedcat' still has his old bamboo shaft, Chouinard piolet.
How many people are still hanging onto one of those ?

Chiloe:

The Forrest Mjollnir Hammer, received a design award and resided in the Smithsonian Institute. Not sure if it is still there. Bill was very proud of that achievement.
