Damn! Harsh times in JT. Be careful out there folks. I, too, soloed the Cyclops Eye once. My mantra these days? Even the easiest climbs demand full respect. Gravity doesn't care about grades.

Cyclops route is a little stiffer than The Eye, 5.8 vs. 5.1

Wonder if injured climber is Tom Hargis (vs 'Hurgis'). Either way, sorry to hear of these accidents.

RIP and Heal up.
Says he was climbing the Cyclops Route?
Wonder if he was free soloing The Eye on Cyclops?,
I did that a couple times BITD.
Condolences,
Tad
Off route?
If one hasn't climbed the Eye before, as I recall, it's easy to get off route.

Very sad. My condolences to the family and friends of the departed climber.
It sounds like the injured climber was on Poodles maybe? That bottom of that has gotten much slicker thanks to the people TR'ing it who can't even climb the 5.7 hand/fist crack next door (and the rap chains someone installed at the top don't help--end of grouse.) Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Sounds like Tom Hargis of Exum Guides is the injured one? One of my favorite climbing mentors over the years. Heal up Tom!
Don't recognize the other (no name yet?), but RIP damn.

Yeah, I suspected it was Tom Hargis too, since another article listed "Tom Hurgis" to be from Jackson WY. Whoever it is, I hope for a reasonable recovery.

If they mentioned Jackson it almost surely is Tom Hargis. Thankfully, the report said the injuries are not life threatening.

I stil haven't been able to find out who that cyclops climber was??
RIP, unknown soldier.. Condolences to family and friends.
Terrible hearing about the 69 yr young man falling... We just did poodles last week. The rte was in great shape, the pro is small but seems bomber. Cept over that bulge its alittle skimpy.
Rest up and heal young man, then get back out there. I hope you do.

The '5.9' move above the alcove on Poodles are People is way more dangerous than the stuff down low. Bottom section climbs like a sport route with super solid cams and stoppers ever ~5 feet. Top... you make a funky exit move out a flare with not great pro and a gnarly alcove/ledge right above.
Done the poodles finish proper one time, I finish now on White Lightning. Just not my cup O tea, if that is indeed what has happened.... could be something totally different, tho.

Any climbing death is a tragedy. My sincere condolences to family, friends, loved ones and first responders.
Any additional information as to what route on the Cyclops formation was being climbed?
Greg, was Tom's accident at the top of Poodles?
Though protection is generally good, the top out does require moving up a ways above the alcove before getting any in. Not an ideal place to fall.

"Wasn't a free soloist and it wasn't on the Eye. The climber was roped and on Spaghetti and Chili. Event is still under investigation, so there are no more details. Climber on Hemingway was released from hospital same day with minor injuries."
