Bouldering is a good time no doubt. I have enjoyed it even more since reading some of the thoughts of the honorable master J. Gill and trying to perfect my execution of problems, not just simply thrutch and hump my way to the top. Thinking of it as a gymnastic routine if you will.

I live close enough to thee mythic Hueco Tanks for day trips but don't get out there often enough because of all the access issues. Better to go in off-season times to avoid crowds and more easily secure a reserved spot.

As mentioned, the modern bouldering "scene" can be pretty off-putting. Luckily lots of choss piles around here get overlooked due to their proximity to Hueco and offer many opportunities for solitary boulder hunting w/o any red tape.

News flash-
Climbing is hard.

And bouldering is easy. Some shoes, a pad, some tunes and get after it. Way easier then trying to find a partner, decide where to go, decide what to do, yada yada.

Why is Bouldering so hard?

Make it easier.

Prior to the send, slam an Ensure Plus, fortified with calcium.

Sport some elbow pads made from an old wetsuit.

Retro shoes never hurt (Boreal Aces in this case).

Shinning the pad adds incentive.
