It's pretty much a given that any climbing gear has a 10% chance of failure at any time; that's my experience for sure.

Kind of argues for using just hands and feet, no?

Flip Flop, the reason for the bungee rig is to allow COMPLIANCE in the system. With this deal you're good to go in three axes and two time zones.

Interestingly, among the anagrams for "COMPLIANCE" is the word "POLICEMAN," if one "C" is dropped.

Thanks for all the positive feedback in regards to my bungee rig!!!

As I mentioned, I don't know anything about 'big wall' climbing, but have a good idea to improve climbing up ropes. I always have trouble remembering how to tie that prestwick knot, so thought I would use some common layin' around machinery to help. This is the sweet rig I came up with. I added the vise grips for more leverage. They say if you have a big enough level you can move the earth - we just need to move a body!!!

I'm a pretty 'technical' guy, so if you need any advise please don't hesitate to ask!!!

Good point T, good point. I was also thinking of using zip ties to make sure the hooks stay where they're supposed to on the rope, etc. Also, I'm not entirely sure about how to release the whole thing when I want to use it as a rappelling device.

Damn! I'm glad all of you are giving me feedback!!! I just realized I've got it rigged backwards!! I want the fixed length to be attached to me, no the rope!!! Just a little technical glitch that's to be expected with new stuff.

Edited to add: That is an impressive pump.
Edited to add: No, I had it right the first time. 'The brain will ..... out, damn spot' as my Grandfather used to mumble.

Hall & Oates On the Bowline

Give away the stern anchor.

Sheet on the bowline.

Hempel on the guitar.

Guido is the helmsman.

Wino's just a tar.

They're following a star.

It's rigging this.

Then frigging that.

They won't get very far.

You knotty boys

Belay that noise

And open up the bar.

Yer gonna die

And go to hell.

You'd better call out the SAR.

I admit to bribing young Gnome to bump. Does that make me a rigger?

Winemaker, are you still even alive?

Yeah mouse, still kicking. Ran into a few problems with the WM Cranko SystemŪ while on rappel but duct tape seemed to solve the problem.

Winter's coming so I'm working on a new design for crampons; thinking about putting little heaters in each point so they 'grip' better and dig in easier. Probably call them WineWalkersŪ. They might be solar powered, although wind power might be good for night use; a few little propellers on the helmet should do the trick.

Another option might be calcium carbide powered heaters/lights on each point to help with night climbing; thought of that from the old caving days. Plus you could launch rescue capsules loaded with gear, etc. with a collapsible carbide cannon mortar and thus avoid the climbing part; I'm thinking a carbon fiber tube of some sort since carbon fibre (Brits) is cool and I used to design things using it (B-2 bomber refueling receptacle (really)).

The brain simply seethes. It's harvest.
