Degaine, I'm sure many do.

However, I think MANY liberals are SO enamored with electing the first woman to the office, just like they were with electing the first Black man to the office.

Both of these things are great.....but we need a qualified person, and just like Obama, Clinton is not qualified.

Flame on.

Thanks for the reply.

To quote you again, "I think MANY...": all you are making is an assumption. The same type of assumption you deplore others for making about you. That's a pretty big generalization when in fact you have no idea of how "liberals" have come to the conclusion that Hillary is a better choice for them than Trump.

Why not just address specific posters or posts on this thread?

As far as a given candidate's or president's qualifications are concerned, you appear to have a hard time accepting that others come to a different conclusion than you. Perhaps this frustration is the source of your often condescending and denigrating tone in political threads?

Cheers.

You're also a good example of a politically correct marxist - you seem to take great offense with anyone using their brain , thinking differently and writing something different or basically living and breathing as a free sentient being.

Your post reads (as does your post history) as if you also take offense when anyone thinks differently than you do.

Typical libtard who thinks thinking a certain way or believing something makes you a good person - so you don't actually have to do anything. Because you have magical thoughts.

Or sort of like the "typical righty" in here who believes that they are patriotic simply by being in favor of something like the Iraq war without actually joining the armed forces or putting their money where their mouth is by volunteering to participate in one of our many invasions abroad, right? (Take your pick among bluering, fattrad, jody, ron anderson, et al.).

You would have made a good henchmen under Stalin or Mao - you have enough anger to easily round up many millions of people who don't agree with your particular group collective and Utopic fantasy.

Lighten up Francis.

Being in favor of policies like universal healthcare, wanting stricter regulations for Wall Street (and for those who committed fraud in 2008 to serve jail time), and being against the invasion of Iraq in 2003 does not equal "utopic fantasy".

Howdy all, this should be my last post on the subject. Warning, it may be more than two cents long.

And subconsciously yer really jacked that Riley is leading a meaningful life caring for others.

Yes Riley does seem to do a lot of good as a nurse, and I am sure his heart is in the right place (no pun intended).

However, Reilly, I sure hope you are not insinuating that others do not live a meaningful life.

Cragman wrote: “We are always given a choice of two candidates, and I look at those VERY closely in terms of which candidate I feel has the strongest ability to solve problems.”

Degaine replied: “Do you have any reason to believe that those on this board who support and/or plan to vote for Hillary have done any different?

“But hey, in general, that's how we humans roll. We are much more lenient with those with whom we agree, and tend to both over scrutinize and quickly demonize those with whom we (often vehemently) disagree.”

Along the same train of thought, Susan wrote:

I thoroughly enjoy robust engaging discussions with multiple viewpoints.

The prevailing tone of "you're a f*#king know nothing idiot that's never done a good deed or gone anywhere in your life" lens through which those viewpoints are presented just gets terribly shopworn.

Here is an interesting article from BBC, yes I know the Beeb is more liberal than conservative, but the article is not about the Beeb’s viewpoints or ideology.

The Reasons Why Politics Feels So Tribal In 2016

http://www.bbc.com/future/story/20160823-how-modern-life-is-destroying-democracy

There are some interesting points in it, such as why many people have difficulty accepting other points of views than their own, how people gravitate to other people with similar views, at the expense of being open-minded and understanding different points of views.

My worry is that with such close mindedness, practical solutions to problems are being overlooked. Donald Trump, in my opinion, is not offering practical solutions, he is there for sound bites, and feeding the fear many Americans have.

Fear is never a good idea, it breeds a lot of nasty things. There are better solutions and alternatives than fear and fear mongering, the latter of which Donald Trump is doing, just read his rhetoric and speeches. America is a great nation, it does not need to be great again, it already is.

But the tribalism and polarization is stifling much of society and progress.

And if you think anybody could be doing differently in addressing ISIS, terrorism, a resurgent Russia, a China that is increasingly being emboldened, think again.

I try to be objective - as a person, as a writer, as a journalist - and I try to look at different points of views, it helps me to grow. I am not saying I am always successful, but I try to make the effort. IMO, many people do not, they are cosy in their circles and beliefs, and when a demagogue like Trump comes along and plays on that, it is a sad and worrying day indeed.

I believe in being positive, not negative, realistic but hopeful, practical yet dreaming. I sometimes wonder if I am succeeding. One thing is that I believe in people and humanity. Despite some bad press us humans sometime receive.

I realize that I probably will not sway or convince anyone on views they already hold, but if what I write can make somebody think, just think (not pontificate, which I hope I haven't done), then all the better.

I would think that we all, regardless of views, ideology and mindsets will see that some, if not all, points in the article have validity and perhaps we can identify with.

And both liberals and conservatives, lefties and right-wing nuts, spout views. No one side has a monopoly on spouting crap, misinformation and disinformation, but it seems that Donald Trump and his people are really good at it (at least they are good at SOMETHING, not much else though, hah hah, he may be a crap businessperson, but he is one heck of a marketer).

At the risk of sounding like a sycophant, I do respect the opinions expressed on this thread, whether I agree or not is another thing.

As you can see, I am no fan of Donald’s, nor of Hillary’s. I will sign off with this post (a long one isn’t it, more than two cents), I feel I have “contributed” to the discussion as much as I can. I will not spin my wheels anymore. Best wishes to all in your lives and endeavors.

Cheers

Patrick

EDIT for Craig below (and any others) I meant respect for other people's rights to express their opinion.

I hope that clarifies it.

It's hard to respect ideas like:
all libtards are Marxists

and Obama is the worst President ever
and Hitlery is a corrupt lying war monger that is responsible for those dead at Benghazi
and she will turn America into Stalinist Russia

I listen to the right wing media, it is one made up lie after another, I could debunk almost every issue they talk about, it's pure fiction sold as news
So if you believe any of it, I will have no respect for your opinion. period.

Lies should have no place in any debate; You lie, You Lose.

Give me any issue, let's debate
Minimum wage, universal healthcare, infrastructure jobs..
The Christian Right bringing theocracy into law
The Conservatives are 100% wrong on them

Riley is so much like Trump, he knows and he can fix it. The name calling and insults flow out this guy like there is no tomorrow.

Almost every post of his starts and ends with an insult.t. Funny to watch and read what his little fanboys have to say after he post.

Susan, you're a testament to a person's 'will to live'. God bless you!

Riley, cancer is a mother-f*#ker. It is not 'fair'. I'm glad there are people like yourself out there, who struggle for others. I have a lot of respect for people who do unseen battles against sickness and poverty.

It's a seemingly thankless task, but there are some who watch you, and hold you all in high regards. It is NOT without thanks. Doing the right thing when nobody else is watching is the highest form of nobility and honor.

Climb on, Riley!
