Wow, scary. That's quite a fall. Glad he's ok. I doubt he was operated on for a blood clot, it was almost certainly a bleed.

So I am more of a climber groupie than a climber, and I have had the pleasure of seeing Thomas and Alex climb a little.......wait what was I typing about.....sorry little flashback there......

So anyway I am so greatful that such a nice guy is and is going to be fine, but that is a long fall by a virtuoso of climbimg. If had had the worst of outcomes there would be rude requests to know what happened in the middle of condolences.

So what happened? How did I come so close to loosing someone Ive been fanta....uh.....remebering so foundly since 2004?

Just received an e-mail from Thomas, he is out of the hospital and back home. He should have a complete recovery.

Yep and I will be in the valley next week hanging at the bridge watching a very long rope and enjoying all the eye candy.

According to the interview (in German) of Thomas posted at http://blogs.dw.com/abenteuersport/thomas-huber-danke-dass-ich-leben-darf/ he had been on this wall many times using a 60m rope, but this time was using a friend's rope that had been cut short, and he rappelled off the end of the rope and fell to the ground.

Thomas has made a remarkable recovery and will be going back to Latok 1 on 8/15. George Lowe and I from the 78 climb will accompany him.....first time back in 38 years.
I think that Thomas along with Sebastian Brutscher and Anton Gutsch have an excellent chance of seizing alpine climbing's Holy Grail.
George and I are there for historical perspective and hope, along with Thom Englebach, to establish a new route on one of the nearby technical 6,000 meter peaks.

No sequelae from a skull fracture and what sounds like a subdural hematoma? He will be lucky not to have any sequelae! Brain injuries/concussions are highly variable, and often not apparent in the immediate post accident period.
