I always use two ascenders along with a grigri as a backup. If it's free-hanging I will have both aiders on the bottom ascender, and just use the top ascender to sit on while moving the bottom one. In my experience this is more efficient than using one ascender with a grigri redirect, especially if I have a heavy load hanging from my harness. (This is because of the way the grigri locking mechanism works. You always lose about 1 inch of progress when you sit on the grigri, which adds up after a couple hundred repetitions)

If you are tied in to the end and aren't clipping a bunch of backup knots to your harness, then you should pay particular attention to the long loop below you, making sure it doesn't catch a downward facing flake and get wedged, or you might find yourself rapping halfway back down the pitch to free it.

Good trick for short sections of ascending but who wants to pull slack through a gri-gri every move for a whole pitch?
