^^^^. Very interesting article. I've often wondered about that after losing 15 or 20 pounds. It seemed so unforgiving keeping it off.

it's great you're so vigilant so you never go back to where you were. It'll start getting harder and harder to make changes as you age...even with good habits the results are so much slower.

Anyway, I'm in or the next round.

Vitaliy, Excuse me for not taking the time to read the article that you posted.

Just a guess on the main difference between you and the contestants on The Biggest Looser.

They participated in an intense diet & exercise program and lost their weight very quickly. You on the other hand dropped a lot of weight over the years..




ps.. I just can't picture you weighing 300 pounds....

It was not as much as those people at once of course, but 40 lbs in a year and 50 the following year is kind of a lot too. Anyways, I did notice that when on the same climbing trip with friends, I can’t eat as much as they do, unless I want to gain weight. No clue if it is due to the weight loss in the past, but I think my metabolic needs are not the same as for an average person my size.

It seems that the best dieting regimen is to simply eat (and live) in a manner that you are willing to sustain for the rest of your life. Doing anything else and expecting short-term results to last doesn't make sense.

Most people need very little food, but we are habituated to eating a lot because it tastes good (and maybe we have biological impulses to keep eating because historically food was not so easy to come by and having a store of fat was a good survival mechanism). So we eat more than we need, then we poop out the extra if we can and whatever is left we pack on as fat.

It takes some adjustment but it is possible to learn to like the feeling of being a little bit hungry and enjoy the slimming effects of that. I am not presently in one of those cycles, but getting closer through more activities.

All right, so the rules for Round 2 aka Losers' Bracket:

Everyone sets a personal target to achieve by July 1. This can be as little as 0 pounds lost (for maintaining healthy habits), but not negative. If you don't make it, pay $10 a pound to a charity of your choice.

Join any time, post up a goal (either target weight or amount lost).

From my post-climbing weigh-in today, I'm shooting for 4.6 down over the 5 weeks.

I have another 20 to go. I have not gained back my weight, which is great, but I will if i keep hanging out with nature. We currently have FOUR 1.75L bottles of vodka in the liquor cabinet. Can we do this again? Please?

A complete cleansing and healing happens when you consume all your body fat, but not falling into starvation.

That would be a health disaster.

let's begin tomorrow and end it at the end of the month.

My target weight is 165 which should be about 7 lbs.

I hung out with kev over the weekend and i called me chubby.

I bit my tongue. Though it's a good thing I didn't swallow. Last thing I need is more calories.

Didn't get a chance to weigh in this morning. Targeting 112.4 (old target - 2). I have 4-5 to go.

I'm still not doing enough cross-training despite my best intentions. But I did hike about 5 miles with a bunch of gear yesterday only to realize I didn't really have time to climb. So there's that.

Tomorrow I'm on my bike no matter what! And no snacks...

The challenge is just eating properly to begin with. Then you will end up at the weight you should be at. I am already there at 180 - lbs.

My ex lost 300 lb. one year. 180 of it was me.
