oh- I could name names... but it would serve no purpose. Dumb-ass is public record for anyone who wants to do some digging.
"I'm better than you"... 1st grade insults seem to prove otherwise.

I had forgoten about the bio bloom every once in a while
a million little florescent lights going off under the waters surface
totally trippy
You actually feel the presence of all the underwater life
Kanan Dume has that large rock shelf that the sharks love because of the colder water there.
Sure do miss the abalone hunting on that wall
if i didnt have horses in the high sierra , I would be back on the PCH coast in a heart beat
JC your outlook on others must really eat away at you or being a dick must just come natural to you
Edit: never was scared by the whales but never was really close
have paddled many hours in line with schools of dolphins which was exhilarating
seen many a shark as when you see seals you will see sharks
Was never scarred of the sharks but once when they seemed uncomfortably close, but fear not , the dolphins chased them off

Thank you Fish. Pt Dume is a nice spot. One of the tallest cliffs on the coast. Decent rock quality. Yes- a beginners area but I don't get all the hate.
FYI: two shoulder surgeries have not repaired my totally destroyed shoulder so yes- I'm relegated to moderate climbing most days- maybe the rest of my life. My choices are limited if I want to get on the rock at all. I know this comes as a great disappointment to the judgmental hard-men out there who base their entire evaluation of people on the grade someone can can climb . I climb what I can and enjoy it regardless of your bullsh#t.

Wow, harsh thread for what one would think is a relatively tame topic.
I don't know the rationale for chopping the bolts, but given the popularity of that area (despite what some others think), there should be decent anchors up top.

I'm with Fat Dad on this one. To this outsider, the vicious nature of some posts don't seem to fit the nature of the issue, but then I admit to a certain bias, for several reasons:
1. I don't understand the "route gourmet" nature of the criticism. Certainly Pt. Dume may not be in the same league of importance as Stoney Point, say, but that doesn't make it unimportant to our community as a whole. Just because I don't like to climb in a particular area shouldn't mean that I don't care if anyone can climb there.
2. I don't understand the superiority complex of certain posts. As an example, I know Justthemaid, and I know she is a real climber. The fact that her physical condition is compromised because of injury doesn't mean that her opinion is "worse" or "better" than anyone else's.
3. It doesn't follow that only the "best" climbers' opinions matter regarding access. We always have looked to those doing the hardest routes in the best style for emulation and, often, for ethics as well. I was raised with the idea that only the top climbers were qualified to determine when to place a bolt. If a better climber could avoid placing a bolt, I would avoid it as well, even if it meant being defeated by the climb. While that's no longer the rule, allowing only those with the greatest technical ability to dictate where we should climb makes no sense to me. The climbing community has grown much bigger.
4. Is this issue really worth all the insults?

I agree John!
I always had a good time at Point Dume. That might be the most used beach in the world for filming TV commercials and movies.

John, pretty much my sentiments.
Point Dume is hardly a destination crag, but it is a climbing area that has seen activity for many decades. I've climbed at many worse areas. There is no logical reason for denying access or removal of anchors.
Every area is worth fighting for. The "reasons" for shutting down a marginal quality crag, left unchallenged, can easily be applied to even the best climbing areas.
But, as a washed up, never was been, who cares what I think.

I like climbing at Point Dume. That right line, a 5.10, on the ocean-facing wall is a lot of fun. Running a few laps on that near sunset, gulls + pelicans + seals + dolphins + whales everywhere, with all of the Pacific spreading below and around you - how can you be against that?

Pyro seemed cool until today's rant but I'll still wish him Happy Birthday!
I've heard good things about Jeff, too, so I am mystified.

I love pt dume. Never had a bad day there although usually I go on weekday afternoon/evenings since I work in the area, or sometimes just a lap or two up and down the arête at lunchtime. it's a really beautiful spot and having a little bit of climbing there is just icing.

I'm guessing the heavy wave action has got someone worried that that rock will collapse on someone.
Let's wait until spring and see what happens.
A quick call to the local ranger would get the truth. You do it. I'm too lazy.
