Many people are too ignorant or too limited in their views to see things from another perspective. Fallacious argument tactic # 72 - attacking the opponent
Fallacious argument tactic # 243 - dismissing the opponent
etc.
You'll have to come up with a better arguments than this.

Have fun lads.....hope you don't tear up the environment to the point where you have trouble sleeping. You drive a large 4x4 Sportsmobile, no? Give me a break. Most climbers lust after such a vehicle and many have Subarus and Tacomas which cause almost the same amount of damage.
My observation is that, by far, 4x4's cause the most damage to our public lands. By far.
Motorcycles are light and small, and there are fewer of them than 4x4's. A motorcycle will normally travel on existing 4x4 roads, and do very little damage to them.
It's true there are motocross areas that are completely trashed and eroded by dirt bike activity. It's pretty rude sometimes. One jackass heading off into the desert full throttle can indeed cause a lot of damage in one tank of gas. This is isolated stuff, however. Most follow the rules. If there are a few areas set aside to get destroyed, so be it - it's just dirt moved from one spot to another a few inches away.
My main complaint is that many are WAY louder than they need to be. It's just not necessary.
Most people will burn a lot more fuel in their drive to go climbing than someone would on a 250 lb motorcycle riding all day. The most aggressive of dirtbikes in the worst terrain might get 30+ MPG, 50 MPG is typical, 70+ on easy terrain is also normal. On top of that, most of these guys are too unfit to handle more than 50-100 miles in a day.

Thanks Fet
also, you don't have to worry about some idiot in a car wiping you out when you are on the trails.
Try two hours on a dirt bike on steep trails and tell me it was easy
I have seven motorcycles. Six of them are dirt bikes. My son and I ride at Hollister Hills in California on the toughest, steepest, sandy, gravelly, ball bearing, potholed, unpredictable and sometimes rocky trails we can find.
I LOVE DIRT BIKING.
Norwegian, I doubt you could even kick start my 250 2-stroke, let alone know how to control its power.

unless the bikes have plates,
you gotta haul that shite to the
destination, too.
and boy do they love their trucks!
oil is f*#ked. but necessary.
i drive my hung-over asse to crags,
but then i self propel and leave
the oil in the lot.
you cannot constructively
defend america's addiction to oil.
we f*#king recreate around it.
dirtbikers want a cheap high.
so they race around ontop
of slamming piston all day
piling up the miles, and then
admire their arm pump.
a lazy lot whom deserves no praise,
and definitely no respect.
oh and pud piss off and leave if you must. i'll stack
two blinks in your honor.
fet's high on himself.

a lot of time on a dirt bike is not sitting on the seat, It is standing on the pegs, going over rough terrain.
I you carry two-strokes daily, then you must be burning a lot more fuel than me.
What are they? Chain saws? Are you cutting down trees?
Actually, I enjoy your posts as well, you are usually quite intricate in your expression, somewhat poetic, in fact. But hating on dirt bikers is just prejudicial. We all go over the line sometimes.

Chief, there is an affable sight of difference 'tween portering chainsaws up a tree to saw to feed hungry mouths and farting around on a motobike for kicks. Amirite?

Halfway through riding from CO to CA by way of AZ on a XR-650l. Brutal! Not recommended for anybody. Those XR's are tanks though!

I've posted this before on a different thread. You can't see the dirt bike, cause that awesome dog is in the way.

God almighty say anything about someone's toys and the knives come out. So....I'm a hypocrite who destroys rock....hmmm not being one of the all too numerous "aid climbing specialists" here, i wonder how i do that? Oh...and I car camp with a 25 year old Sportsmobile......which, of course, I drive 99.9 % on paved roads.
I happen to think that dirtbikes, ATV's, snowmobiles, and even mountain bikes aren't great for the the fragile desert environments where they are commonly used.
My post was mild because I think that some owners of those items use them in a responsible way.
I can assure you that my ancient Sportsmobile never goes where a dirt bike or ATV does.
Before some you towering intellects use words like "hipocrisy" look up the difference between apples and oranges.

By the way. My dirtbike gets 72 mpg. Two gallon tank. That's 144 miles. My commute is 10 miles. Which is a more eco friendly commute? My dirtbike or your current vehicle? Be honest ya wankers!
Jim I hear you, In the desert I prolly ride 98% single track. The trails out in the desert are typically less invasive feeling than your typical John Muir or most high sierra trails.
For some reason I always feel a bit more yucky seeing the nasty rutted out trails in the high Sierra than I do a sandy single track out in the middle of 3000 sq miles of BLM land. Not sure why.

Uhhh Micro, bro: what about the toy hauler (associated with >80% dirtbike commutes)Tundra?
Aren't there dirtbike forums for this kinda thing? You know, places where you don't have to examine your actions in critical light?

Bravecowboy. I'm not worried about the examination. Bring it on. This thread is fun. Some lovers, some haters. Its all good.
And yeah......my new Tundra. Not real proud of the gas mileage. But I live on 15 acres and have a small farm. Goats, chickens, hay, seed, feed....the whole nine yards. Not many great options for anything other than a good truck. Prius with a big trailer maybe?
I'm a climber who loves dirtbikes. Dirtbike forums dont have many Dirtbikers who climb threads I would guess. Never looked for a Dirtbike forum.
Sonny Garcia, world champion surfer and rad dirtbike addict says he basically surfs to fund his passion for dirtbikes. Surprised me.
