Those are some classic shots Ekat. Where are the shoulder pads and shin guard's and all that stuff the modern riders wear?
When were these pictures taken?

Hey eKat, did you know Dana Bell? She was an enduro racer from socal, raced late 70s through 80s. past tense for her racing career, she is still alive and well.

Absolutely love those vintage motocross photos from eKaterinaBermshotChica!
I can say those photographs are likely from 1971 through 1973.
The Sidi Full Bore boots she is wearing in the photographs were very popular right around 1971 - 1973 and were the must-have kicks of the times.
After that, around 74, the Hi Point boots with metal shin plates started becoming racer's choice.
By 1974.5, the Maico production bikes had forward mounted shocks. Works bikes a bit earlier.
Maico produced THE best handling, most flexibly powerful, purpose-built race bikes of the era.
Okay, sure, there was the adage Maico-Breako, but all the European bikes required diligent maintenance.
And a factory ride on a Suzuki TM? Way too cool for school.
Kathy was living the dream and in the best possible way with that machinery and the support she mentioned. And look at those trophies!!!
*Hey Kath: where's your Jofa?

Yeah, those eKat moto pics are about as bitchin as it gets; plus the added history makes it bitchin-er! Hobo, prolly wasn't us as we were on single track 95% of the time with a short road connector along the n fork. We did have lunch at a cool little cabin...
This cabin is on the Weitas ck portion of the loop

Bad-ass machines, kath. Dig the photos.
Anyone want to suggest a favorite dual for short (30-40mi) hardtop commuting (ideally easy to maintain @ 60mph) and still nimble for rough dirt getting into fishing spots? Thanks.
Dale
ETA: little guy, 5'7", 145; probably looking 250-400 (I know, damn-near mutually exclusive to the 60mph thing!)

How about this?
1) It is a bike
2) being ridden on dirt
3) Has offroad tires on
4) Has dirt on it per Werner's criteria

Paul, is yours an 1150? Adventure? How do you like the weight when it gets greasy?
Stumbled into an '02 single-cyl F650 locally, but would love to start looking for a twin 800GS or possibly a boxer for longer tripping.

Thought I would resurrect this thread since my sons and I are all riding different hardware these days.
I have upgraded to a big dawg.
KTM 525 exc
We call her the "Ocho Ocho."
She has taking me to the far flung reaches of the earth and back again. Can't wait for the Baja 1000 again this November. Macronut and I went down for the race last year. It was epic. It's the 50th anniversary. I hope we can make it down there for the race.
And my 10 year old son, Bek, has also moved up into the big leagues. We got rid of his 65 and he is now strapped to a big ol monster of an RM 85. He cannot get enough of it.

Hey Micro...Dig!!
My season is actually closing for hunting and snow in the high country. We will make a couple fall camping trips to Pipestone for throttle twist warm-down situations so I am stoked for that!
Here is a pic from the Lemhi earlier this year...
Managed to ride about 15 or so 'new to me' trails in N and central ID and along the stateline. Good times.
Have a great season!!!

How I used to scare the sh#t outa myself before discovering climbing.
I had a little fab shop at my house when I was growing u, and my mom taught me to weld. After the first two I built my mom put her foot down and said no more ramp building, so I waited for her to go outa town for a week to put this one together. Then of course the day it was done and just as me and some people were loading it on a trailer..... she came home a day early. The ass kicking was worth it though. Always was!!!!

I joined the club! Well, it's a dual sport, so no the most sporty of dirtbikes, but it feels like it's enough to put me in the hospital within one year.
Tehipite Dome! Now I just need a zip-line that starts here.
Old quarry about 5 minutes from home. Nice view of Patterson Bluff from there.
So. Much. Fun.
