The minimum wage-to inflation index must be applied in a scientific manner and not be based on ideology.

I say; Index the minimum wage directly to current cost of weed and alcohol. Let the market dictate, to that degree.

I base this on extensive data gathering-my kids have been drinking my beers and dipping into my sack. Please pay them more!

Keep in mind, the last time there was a depression, the conditions were created for the rise of nazi Germany's and WWW II. A depression is nothing to f*#k around with.

As it is, we experienced the deepest "recession" in recent history. Nobody wanted to use the D-word, although by many metrics it could be argued that we were in depression anyway.

What makes you so confident the effects would have been short term?

I'm confident of nothing in this regard. Talk to ten different economists about it, and you'll get at least a dozen different answers!

"Short" vs. "long"? What do those words even mean?

My overarching point is that to save ourselves, we sold our souls to the fed and set precedents that are disastrous for the long term. Now corporations literally believe that they can run utterly roughshod over us, and, as long as they are (just) above the "too big to fail" threshold (whatever that is), there will be NO repercussions for what is literally criminal behavior.

And, RJ, sorry to make you mad, but that post needed editing. Happy to help!

You only hire someone because they make you more than they cost you.

If they can't produce $30 worth of goods or services an hour for a $15 an hour pay check ans a $25 an hour or so total cost you are going to find another solution or go on to something more profitable.

Jody..."Surprise! Despite endless American complaints about over-taxation, the U.S. has one of the world’s lowest marginal income tax rates, at 27%."

To pay for the wars and the military?

Jody and his libertarian hogwash.

Thanks for the conversation.

Okay, so how about we cut that to at most one-half of what it presently is and quit engaging in wars of conquest, the "salvation" of Israel, and ridiculous "police actions" around the world?

We could still be THE global power with half the military we presently have!

Again, Jody, how are YOU regulated? Does OSHA storm out to the ranch in ski masks to make sure you hung the cat door straight? Does the EPA refuse to give you carbon credits for your farts?

My small corporation, investment property and primary residence are all in one of the most hostile tax and regulation environments around (San Diego), but it's all fine, quite good actually.

Do you watch Naked and Afraid Jody? That's how you'd live without the US Government.

The best thing I have heard you say!

We do have common ground to stand on.

6 trillion dollars and counting used in a different way could sure solve a lot of problems.

Jody, I just wanted to get to know you, hence the questions.

You're what drew me here, with the "blood on my hands" stuff. I recognize that you are a huge component of the Super Topo experience.

You're like:

Mr. Smith to Lost in Space.
Shane to Naked and Afraid.
Any others?

So if you guys cut your military in half, (talk about domestic terrorism ! ) how would you cope with an additional 738,948 people being unemployed ?

so, we're adding jobs at about 200,000 per month, so problem fixed in 4 months.
