I always found it a little easier if you ran the footloop down under your harness waistband. A chest harness isnt critical but nice if you wish to use both hands on the upper ascender.

I never did try that caver system with the ankle cam though.

I'm an old fart, but I will happily *race* any of you young whippersnappers up 60m of free-hanging rope with the winner getting a 2-4 of choice, provided you use your crappy Yosemite system, and I get to use my Frog. ;)

I smoked a caver coming out of Golondrinos (sp?) in Mexico. Yosemite style jugging, around 1400' free air, 43 (or was it 48?) minutes. Took him like an hour, and it was a pride race.

And as said above... don't overthink the sh#t. Jugging a line is not that bad and way fast. Hop on the haul line at the belay and help getting the bags unhooked below. You really only need about a rack and a half because the cleaner is way faster than the leader (usually) and then you tag up some gear.

Did a few walls with the 3 man team. Never needed a 2:1 or any goofy sh#t. If all three of you can actually climb, then you will be up and off just about anything on the crag in about 4 days. We did the gallon a day method any time of year.

Wow! You must have had massive biceps, Russ!

Sotano de Golondrinas is around 1096' I believe. Haven't done it yet....

I was pretty fit at the time and got really pumped. I actually stopped at 2/3 height to check my pulse to see if I was having a stroke or something since my arm hair was completely covered in water droplets and I was sweating like pork. That funky cloud in there must have the humidity at about 99%. Pulse was only 318 so I kept going ;) It would probably take me 3 days now, regardless of the method employed.

Not to derail the thread, but here is some info on the cave: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cave_of_Swallows

You're my hero, Russ.

And by the way, your portaledge sucks, dude. I've "only" used it 629 nights on El Cap, and already it is showing signs of wear. In fact, your ledge sucks so bad, that on my last ascent of El Cap, I didn't even use it!

All right, so there was ONE whippersnapper who once might have beat me. I'll be on the bridge next month. Bring your jugs and a rope, and we'll sling the rope over a tree branch while our belayer pays it out through his harness while we jug. Bring beers.
