It [Reagun miracle] was a miracle if you owned a Savings & Loan.

At the end of 2004, the direct cost of the S&L crisis to taxpayers was $124 billion, according to financial statements published by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), the successor to the FSLIC.

Hillary might scrape a few crumbs off the table for the average American, but her loyalty will still lie with Wall Street. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

But keep in mind the Supertopo Forum demographic isn't exactly in Hillary's wheelhouse...

I lived in the Rust Belt during Reagan.

Same here.

TGT was in Southern California, epicenter of the middle-class welfare defense industry.

It's why I moved to SoCal. I guess I owe Reagan for that.

As I recall, it was a miracle if you had a job. Factories closing left and right, tax breaks for corporations that moved their work overseas, the assault on labor unions, etc.

Gary.... agree 100% ..... one could easily say the same about the current "recovery".

Life is good if you work in the public sector, live on your stocks dividends, or are a CEO.

But try to get that entry level job, can you say part time?

Compete with folks from 3rd world nations, who come over here to work in industries that can't find QUALIFIED Americans. (who will work at engineering jobs for $11/hr) Helped by our "government" to boot.

IMHO... that fact says it all about the complete failure of our public school system . You know the one that eats up about 49% of our states spending....

But go ahead.... vote for Hilliary. We will get the same old same old forever ..... no wonder most don't even bother.

peace and hugs to you all.

It’s about finally undoing the Reagan revolution.

back when Reagan was in charge Russians practiced "Ron regan drills"!
"Able Archer 83"

we need a surprise kinda president!

most international political leaders already know how and what Hillary will do. we don't need another Obama fumble (Crimea) in which Putin sure took advantage of.

Who ever ends up in the white house... They need to start another war and bring back the draft. It will brings jobs and kill off society's riff-raff at the same time.

No?

TGT was in Southern California, epicenter of the middle-class welfare defense industry.

I was a Steel Worker, finishing up my apprenticeship at American Bridge Division, US Steel.

I saw the intransigence and unreasonable demands of the union that claimed to represent me cause the close of that plant (and quite a few others around the country about the same time).

I bailed before the closure and ran a hotel-ware china plant for a few years and then transitioned to building ceramic plants of all descriptions until the AQMD ran them out of business. These were NOT air polluting plants, but the regulatory climate got so convoluted and expensive that a whole industry of mom and pop size employers that had thrived in So Cal since the 30's closed up shops and the few that survived did so by transitioning to importers of Chinese wares.

Soooo, I don't want to replicate Rickys stupidity and repeat his idiotic line (ie, "bullshit") although he might surprise us all and regroup to form a full sentence at some point, BUT did you also note that labor rates in China were substantially lower than in the US? A factor much more important than a few regulatory issues. Republicans it was that opened China to non-tarrifs that allowed their cheap Chinese labor rate to hit our shores. (Not necessarily a bad thing when shopping at Wallchart it's been said)

Do you have any specifics TGT? (Re: APCA - "Air pollution control agency")

What ran those businesses out was the regulatory burden.

Most of them specialized in relatively short run specialty "artsy" high end items, not mass market.

A couple of them switched the model to importing cheap stuff and survived. those that did switch went from employing 50-100 to 5-12.

The AQMD did them in, not the Chinese.

When it cost you thousands of dollars a year for permits and the frustration of endless inspections over things like a glaze spray booth where you are effectively spraying mud on mud with no possibility of negative environmental effects at some point you realize you aren't wanted here, lay everyone off and sell the building.

The irony of AQMD's regulations is that we now breathe China's polluted air...Doh...

China and the imports came after the AQMD.

The regulation of kilns, (the part that really can pollute) came after the BS empire building/fee collecting regulations ran most of the industry out of California.

I guess since your prog beliefs are unassailable you must know more than someone who was there.
