Madbolter - sounds like you might enjoy the impressive list of Ufo sightings over at uforc.org. Look at the specificity of the accusations! Its crazy to believe that they're not aliens if you're a crazy human like us!

Gangsters for example don't kill off people willy-nilly in "proactive" mode to keep accusations from ever emerging ..

Nice! You've convinced yourself that you're an expert in gangster behavior and are trying to use your delusion as a step in displaying the rationality of your beliefs. But you made up your expertise in gangster behavior and then just convinced yourself that it's true. That's cool for you, just some of us don't buy it as illustrating the rationality of your belief processes :-) Our human awesomeness at confirmation bias makes us really good at type 1 errors. Praise Jesus!

Confirmation bias
From Wikipedia,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confirmation_bias

It is a type of cognitive bias and a systematic error of inductive reasoning. People display this bias when they gather or remember information selectively, or when they interpret it in a biased way. The effect is stronger for emotionally charged issues and for deeply entrenched beliefs. People also tend to interpret ambiguous evidence as supporting their existing position.

Take Religion

I don't have any non-smart beliefs to defend.
I'm a skeptic, all major BS has been purged
and good riddance

The only message I've been saying all these years is that the Republicans are evil (smart),they have proved that over the last 30 years with their actions
and the Dems are our only chance, but we have to have a cultural shift away from the power of money to make the sure the Dems stay in line (smart), once again proven by their actions.

The Smoking Duck has proven to not have any beliefs based on intelligence, they are all based on some book he read sometime in the past, or some loony web site, so hence, his whole world is based on confirmation bias.
And hence other every human is stupid because they don't have the same BS beliefs,
and to top it off, the beliefs are so crazy, he won't even share them.

Confirmation Bias;

That pretty much sums up the political threads, and I admit I am susceptible.

Your example of religion is true also, but I would add that conservatives who believe in a Messiah tend not to look for him (or her) in the voting booth.

Given all of those deaths, what's the probability that the clintons are responsible for murdering them? What"s the appropriate reference class?

The probability is either 0 or 1. Pick one of those and believe it. Then let the confirming begin!

The better question is - are you ready for another bushmare?

No No No.... like his bro said.

Fool Me once, ya fooled me..
Fool me twice, got me again, dang it..
fool me again, er er er e r eeerrrr err errr ...

Like I stated up thread, no Bush rerun, no Clinton rerun. But it might be very interesting to see what sort of INTERN CREW billiary hires if she becomes prez....

thanks less to Democratic policies than the stifling of republican ones

Ha! Inaccurate, to say the least. Economy goes off a cliff under Bush, recovers under a Dem president, but he gets no credit. That's weird.

I think it would be smart to look at a person's qualifications instead of their last name. We've never had a Trump president, that's a new name...does that mean he's qualified?

Crankster..... nobody is qualified.

Picking a prez is a crap shoot.... at best.

You need to go way back to LBJ to find a qualified prez.... as a senator, LBJ collected quite a few IOUs from other senators... then he had these to "cash in" when he was prez.... that is how he got things DONE. He also had tons of dirt on just about everyone in DC and he used that when needed.

This is why ex-governors never really get much done, or one term congressmen or Sec of State.....they have no club.

This is why I was for McCain, in till he agreed to have that Palen idiot as VP.... that showed his glaring lack of judgement. After that I went for Obama (regretfully) because I didn't think that being the wife of the prez qualified you for anything.... and I still feel that way.

TGT, I always wonder what people mean when they talk about the Reagan Economic Miracle. As I recall, it was a miracle if you had a job. Factories closing left and right, tax breaks for corporations that moved their work overseas, the assault on labor unions, etc.
