Cut the Sanctimonious Crap

"You've got s lot of nerve, baby"
Said the tiger to the platypus
Who vacationed in Sumatra
As she was unaware
Of the feline state
Of perpetual agitation
A platypus it turns out
Who had plans of her own
With eggs to bake
And gardens to uproot
"You need to excuse me, sir
I'm on vacation
So far from home"
As she plucked a handful
Of fur from his chest
And proceeded to stuff
Her tattered old vest
As the tiger groaned and did his best
Not eat her whole
In front of the giant statue
Of the holy virgin
Oh blessed art thou

I'm up later than you are, but I'm dreadfully dry of topical stuff.
I hate waking up and not being interested in going back to bed and stuff.
Half the time when I try writing away my wakefulness I get nothing but fluff.
I'm tellinya, it's tough. Not as tough as trying to take down the Patriots.
Not as tough as trying to deal with Wiley Putin
or the Friendly Pope
or the Scary Young Un
or the reference librarian on a bad day,
who we call Old HashTagHag,
but it's up there.

M Is For MFM

Feelin' sorry was easy Lord
When BrineBoy sang the blues
What the hell'd we have to lose?
Only the laces in my shoes.

He wore loafers
And I had Reebocks.
He played the squeezebox
And I had a way with locks.
We stayed down along the docks,
Sometimes went for country walks
Where we'd watch the red-tail hawks
And maybe even climb some rocks.

Climbing them was easy, Lord,
When we climbed without our shoes,
Slinging horns with the laces from my shoes.
--MFM, quitting while I'm ahead, but just barely

Typical...starting in the middle of the alphabet.
I'm so disorganized.
You don't know how Jumbled my thoughts can get,
like ice in Yosemite Creek on a real cold day in winter
when there's a lot of

Well, we got higher up and put on our shoes again
and headed down the trail.
I can't tell you where we went because we are still on the road.
Again.

Are we in France or Switzerland?
I always thought Montreaux was in France.
Stick around, I might learn something else.

Was Dylan ever in Montreaux? Was the wife along?
Always, these questions.
No wonder the reference librarian's such a hashtaghag.

S Is For Scarecrow

How to describe the rolling thunder
Is a job for a writer of wonder
How the sound of it starts by splitting asunder
The clouds above me which I stand under

Nope. Not for me. It's beyond me.
Like the thunder now in the distance.
I can tell, because it startled the crows in the park
and they're now flying all around in an aerial scrum.
They won't get any wetter, just like me, standing here,
wet to the core, and beginning to freeze.
Now they're settling back into the trees
And I'd better go home
To warm my shivering knees.

Another 5 minute poem...

BARKY SNARKY

Barky Snarky barked at a tree
Then slinked away dejectedly
He could not control his proclivity to warn off all intruders
He did not know the rustling leaves were harmless
His master never taught when to reign it in
He had a habit reinforced by a feeling of insecurity due to abandonment issues
Barky Snarky barked at a tree
Then slinked away dejectedly

Lucky for us, he did not have a smart phone or know how to twitter.

The Next President tweeted, rather, twitted,
"Security blankets the White House. I sleep well at night knowing this."

To which, there were no replies.

A non sequitur by default.

"Hush, boy. Settle down. It's only thunder."

D Is For Drudgery

Lost My Shirt at Table Mountain
Putting coins into a fountain
That resembled Abbey Downton.
Trouble was I was not countin'
On running out so fast.

They serve no liquor, on Table Mountain,
With all the gamblers and the shiny spittoons.

I shoulda just gone surfing,
On Table Mountain,
where they hide the booze away.

Yellow peril and all but the real question is does Chim Pom surf here?

You bet - Tijuana’s Colonia Libertad.

Known for provocative themes and unusual settings, the six-member group has built a wood tree-house in Tijuana overlooking the U.S.-Mexico border, and labeled it “USA Visitor Center,” filling it with items that include a coyote skin, a shelf with American classics such as “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” and an image of a $5 bill with the face of Donald Trump.

On Thursday, before returning to Tokyo, the group installed a second piece: a plastic cross emblazoned with the word, “Libertad,” and set on a trash-filled strip across the primary fence on U.S. territory, near a hole on the Mexican side that represents a clandestine tunnel. “Libertad” symbolizes just the opposite: the burial of liberty.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Walking into Mexico at the nation’s busiest border crossing with the United States is no longer an uninterrupted stroll for foreigners.

Pedestrians going to Tijuana from San Diego at the San Ysidro crossing must choose between a line for Mexicans who get walk through unchecked, and a line for foreigners who must show a passport, fill out a form and – if staying more than a week – pay 322 pesos, or roughly $20, for a six-month permit.

Going the other way, the fee is waved?

Walking the Border
There is only one way to understand the 1,933-mile line that divides our country from Mexico. Start at the beach and walk east until you hit the Gulf.

Highights\

The border is approximately nineteen hundred miles long, and there are approximately eighteen thousand Border Patrol agents tasked with protecting it. That's nine agents per mile. Of course, these agents aren't posted at strict and regular intervals along the line. They move around, they cluster, and sometimes they pursue leads or man checkpoints up to a hundred miles from the frontier. But still. If you're walking the border, you're going to see a lot of Border Patrol.

Fate is just fickle. It could be a male, female, or neither.

Or both, WTF.

I came online after my visits to
1. The optometrist's office
2. The Cinema Cafe
and immediately the top thread is this one.

zBrown seems to have come to life with the rains...

A bounty of coincidence, a couple of events tying in with each other, at the least, ensues.

I should begin with the Rebirth of the Muse, however. I was reading about this on Saturday in the County Times' The Free Times weekly entertainment guide.

There is an exhibit of art in Turlock at The Carnegie Arts Center.
It features several "top" artists from various places, Merced County conspicuously.
The rest of the report reads:
"...members were asked to consider how inspirations come to them, through the seeds sown in the past and through the opportunities of new challenges.

"This show is dedicated to the memory of Rose Eager, a beloved member of CHAA who recently passed. Rose dedicated her life to her artistic muse, her lovely family and nursing. Paintings from the last year of Rose's rich and creative life are included in the exhibition."

This show runs through April 23.

edit: I meant to place this in here earlier, but spaced out.

The Contemporary Humanitarian Artists Association (CHAA) is a group of artists who believe that every human being has an effect on our world.

The artists in this group come together with a joint philosophy, that everyone’s decisions and behaviors either advance society or contribute to its decline. The luxury of being “neutral” is non-existent. These artists create in order to provide others a small escape from their world and to give them a glimpse into the soul of another human being, if only for a fleeting moment. Seeing our world from many perspectives reminds us that one of the most important purposes in life is to help each other while being the best possible stewards of our planet.

The members of CHAA have originated from many locations and have momentarily converged in the center of the San Joaquin Valley. The members meet regularly to discuss art philosophies, to share art techniques, to critique each others' work, and to support each other in their journey to create.

The collective has set a theme for this exhibition that each artist responded to with his or her own unique interpretation. The Rebirth of the Muse encourages the artist to explore what inspires them and express those inspirations in works both old and new.

My vision is correctable, thank God. The left eye is the "good" eye, the right one has the lens implant put there in the eighties by this same expert, Dr. Gary Graham. He was genuinely concerned when he examined me, saying that the seven-year interval between my last visit and this one has seen vast differences. This is to be expected, but he thought maybe there was a secondary cataract in the right eye. This proved not to be the case.

I should have new glasses soon.

In visiting the Cinema, I sat and read the County Times front to back and had several laughs. One was because of a picture of an older Mexican woman protesting against proposed use of $10,000 of county funds to send the Merced County Sheriff's Posse to Washington, DC, for the presidential inauguration. She held a picket sign with the message "No es mi presidente."

At the table next to me, the four-place table I call "the window seat," were Abuela and her mijas. She looked at me funny when I laughed out loud. I showed her the picture and she turned to look and I thought her red holiday sweatshirt was embroidered and beaded with "Trumpy," but it turned out to read "Grumpy." We all thought it funny. Maybe you had to be there, but I'm tellin' ya, so...

Anyway, these horses are travelling in two luxurious semis on a 56-hr continuous transcontinental journey both ways, but the money is coming not from the county, but from private sources, donated by civic-minded citizens of this and other counties.

The Sheriff's Posse is representing all of California, as there are only 40+ slots in the parade, scheduled to take ninety minutes or so, and the Posse has been in two prior inauguration parades, so they are a crowd-pleasing attraction. There are three married couples in the Posse. It consists of 14 horses and riders. Sheriff Vern Warnke, the leader of the Posse, said, "The horses are getting treated much better than the riders. They can exercise in the rigs. The horses will be monitored 24 hrs a day, with at least two people awake at all times....

"We hear the parade route is 1.5 miles long....One entry is a police department precision motorcycle team out of Chicago....Having the absolute sparkle and shine of what the Posse is going to show off and the beauty of these horses will be spectacular."

The Elks Lodge in Merced held the fundraiser for the Posse's expenses, but the members still pay out of pocket for much of what goes on. One of them, Juanita Ellington, talked at length on the event and the horses.

"The horses have to be 15.2 hands in height. They have to be American Saddlebreds or Quarterhorses, and all of them are palomino in color. They have to be able to trot in a controlled trot. The American Saddlebreds raise their legs high and it is elegant and pleasant to watch....[My husband and I] were always interested in horses, and after we raised our children, we decided to pursue riding for something to enjoy doing together in our free time....It's quite an investment. We each do it because we enjoy it." Describing the group, she said, "There is a lot of camaraderie. We go together to a lot of places out of town."

Explaining how the Sheriff's Posse came about, Ellington said, "The Posse originated in 1948, and it was primarily a mamily of brothers by the name of Vierra who started it....They used to ride horses all the time then, and that was what they did for fun. It stayed as strong as it is because of that family. We have members of that family in our group still. Our Captain, Leroy Vierra, is a son of one of the original brothers....Our Secretary, Laurette Locke, is Leroy's sister.

"The Posse had a connection with SAR. When it started, we were all one. Many of our members were members of both. Now we are ambassadors of the community..."

The Posse under former Sheriff Pazin was at the 2004 Inauguation Parade.

It's just too bad the Nameless One has to make an appearance and spoil it for half the country.
