Fritz up in Choss Creek is makin' me feel like the lightweight that I am, dealing with temps in the minus range F. as he and Heidi are having to do.

I went out for a REALLY short walk, froze my fingers to the bone, and headed back to the barn/cell/icebox.

We had frost and some puddles developed an icy film on the surface.

But none of those 4" hoar-feathers you see on other threads.
No frozen ponds to skate or snowy woods to tour.

But on the plus side
NO DRIFTS OF WHITE STUFF TO PLOW/SCRAPE/PILE
NO STUFF BEING BURIED TILL THE SNOW MELTS

well, after two-three days of high wind, low ceilings and intermittent face shots of fine mist, we finally got our due in the wee hours of the night. calm by dawn, blue all around and sunshine peeled the frost from our windshield in the first hour of this vuarnet day

Noggin, check.

There's ye olde woole balaclava that nita detests, the knit cap from the VA hospital, and the Chilo's Chili souvenir ball cap. You can't do better than free, except when you're forgetful like me. I even had one of those lycra face liners like the guys on the Big EV use.

Hands, nope.

Had a pair of red knit gloves from Amyjo, lost one, then the other. Had a pair of good leather ones but they disappeared several seasons back. Had some great Dacjczchstein mitts back in the seventies.

Quite frankly, Dingus, this morning's al fresco caper was humiliating...all the way up till I got back in bed and got toasty again! The reason we idiotic stupid humans have autos in the first place is so that shepherds and lazy climbers will have a mobile heat base and Starbucks-in-the-wilderness.

Your van DOES have an espresso machine, right? And a mini-bar?

I came here prepared to deliver a lecture on Edward Abbey, but have mislaid my notes...wouldja believe it? Wouldncha know it?

Meh...they may be in the same place that those gloves and things got off to.

No matter...I usually always try to plan for failure along with success. Such may seem to be a self-defeating mechanism,
but it's better than being a total loser, at least IN MY BOOK.

I'll take one of these in midnight blue, please.Mercedes-Benz G-Class.
Developed on the advice of Mohammad Reza Shah, the Geländewagen went into production as a military vehicle in the 1970s
and hit Mercedes dealers as a civilian car in 1979, remaining largely unchanged since then.

Vacation Cruise: The Sea of Senility

The Crematoria group rises south of the Sound of Silence,
where we lie becalmed for the third day in a row. Things are not going well.

The communal supply of Geritol, grossly miscalculated from day one, is now reduced to one jar. It was fun to find donini's secret stash, though. It's why he's always so damn perky.

There is no more Sanka, much less de-caf Starbucks. And who knew Depends had to be changed immediately or even that they began icing up so fast?

However we got this far north, I'll never really know. I slept right through the exciting part, so they tell me. I had my hearing aid turned off, though.

Seems the fog lifted and the current had been carrying us in the still air for days and we could (they could, I was asleep) tell we were moving north by how the coastal range appeared to be moving south but it was the other way round. See?

Well, I wakened in my shirtsleeves, freezing cold and panicking because I couldn't hear a thing and the deck was nearly invisible in the fog. And I paid good money to be here?

[TBC, depending.]

The story about the nine-pound catfish?
Nah, it's too incredible even for this thread.
The only boulders we saw were along the river.
Up higher, nothing but choss, burnt-over chapparal, and what you'd expect. And so we switched the music.
[Click to View YouTube Video]And I told old Moab about the shortcut on Dogtown Road. We'd get him back to his sister's in Merced in plenty of time for dinner.

Well, he took the sandbag and we ended up at the Rev's around dark, little bit before. But in order to do so, I had to lie. I felt bad, but only until Denny offered me a couple shots of brandy to go with the Bud I scoffed while Mathis gave a brief tour of Camp Runamucka.

Larry's an excellent driver, the rig is bona fide high and handsome riding, and if I was a woman, I might be crazy about that truck. Truck, not automobile.
So, having pulled the wool over Larry' EYES, I told him flat out we could make it to Merced by six o'clock.
His instincts from his days in high school reading Road & Track and Car & Driver, which we'd already been jabberin' about earlier and are legendary, took control;
and, teamed with my expert knowledge of the route, the rig flew through Greeley,
sped down the grade to Coulterville, then on to the 132 to the Merced Falls Road,
past Mike's, Bud's, the Merced River bridge, through the so-called mima hills north of town, and into Middle Earth at 6:15.

I've been looking for the music that has the lyrics

" when you hear the music, ya can't stop yer shuffle in feet, it can't be beat , ( then , a deep bass, retort, ) it can't.Be Beat!

I'm sure it is a Little Feat song, but when I listened for it I was I'm sure drawn in and off focus

The figure who inspired the “Mr Jones” protagonist in Bob Dylan’s classic ‘Ballad Of A Thin Man’ has died.

Jeffrey Owen Jones, a film professor at the Rochester Institute Of Technology, has been regularly identified as the subject of the song, which appeared on 1965’s ’Highway 61 Revisited’.

Jones was 63 and died of lung cancer at the beginning of November.

According to the widely held theory, Jones inspired the song after interviewing Dylan while he was an intern at ‘Time’ magazine.

...

Although it is widely thought that Jones inspired the song, there have been other candidates for the protagonist, including a British journalist named Max Jones, who Dylan has mentioned himself.
