The real McCoy from somewhere over the rainbow...
Sep 28, 2016 - 11:26am PT
Relieved I am that the camera has found its way home. So little time with soo much to do. Unfortunate it was that my time and energies were spread so thin. At least there was a time for some quick banter with the mouse. So distracted I was that my social skills missed the bar. We did not find your bales. We did however, on another day, find an exsquisite piece of double layered, beautifully designed fully intact glassware....
Hurried off we did, simply to have to dodge falling rocks and turn back before our intended goal. I was sick from the slave pits that day and had to bear the full consequences as such for simply showing up to the raffle. I am glad we had the chance to briefly exchange a little wit and word play, but in a weird way of all the people I wanted to say hi to, it was a lack of proper decorum with you that most irked me. So often does my shyness get the best of me. Hope you are well and glad that your camera found its way home to you.

BooDawg.

Sweet Betsy went climbing with her old man Ike.
Said Betsy to Ike as the trail they did strike,
'The towers up there are an awful long hike.'
"Can't we do another one which we might like?'

Et cetera.

When I rode out on the Electra to the bus yard to claim my camera yesterday morning, the wind was negligible and the temp was manageable. I put my new Kleen Kanteen from Facelift to work and put it in the basket. Glad I did, because the temp began rising rapidly once I began my return trip, camera in the basket, my present worries over.

I had been greeted there at the service yard office by an extremely attractive blonde named Robyn, whose voice on the phone matched her silken blonde hair. In person, it was like angel-speak.

She wore a light summer dress that did more to heat me up than to cool her off.

She greeted me by walking out the door as I was locking up my steed.

"Hello, Brian. Looking for this?"

"Ubba, ubbah, uh, yeah. Are you Robyn?"

"Yes, I am. Is this your camera? It's the only one the cleaners found on your bus last night."

I took the sacred artifact in my right hand and I suddenly felt whole and in charge.

"This is like having another eye of a sudden, Robyn! Bless you! Will you marry me?"

Well, it was with regret that she turned me down, I could tell, but I manned up and pedaled off into the heat and glare.

I've had worse letdowns.

I parked in the shade of the tree at the entrance to Merced Airport and put the camera to use on the old Korean War-vintage jet plane set up on risers there as a welcome to airport visitors. I believe it's an F-86 Sabre.

It's been there since I've lived here. There used not to be a fence around it. There is a similar fence surrounding the WWI German field piece in front of the Vets' Hall on Main St. The only enemy these old weapons now have now is spray paint. So it goes.

Our solution to everything: build a wall. Bomb the bejeezus out of 'em. Or worse yet, Sanctions! Ho-man, not the Sanctions! We give up! Don't shoot!

And as I pedaled on into town, here's what I found. So, next time you have to stop in Merced, and you see the signs for chow, gas, rest, do yourselves a favor and don't head for the Taco Bell or Burger Thing.

That bit of bad weather, I'm told, caused a trace of rain here in Merced, nothing more.
I reeeeealy like this shot.
It expresses the different ways in which climbers of all kinds approach the pastime.
Philosophies vary greatly, but we all enjoy the heights as a common bond.
Something to think about.

Some like dragsters, some like crate-mobiles.
Some like oranges, some like banana peels.

It's a mad, mad, mad, mad world, but someone's gotta pick up the trash.

I want to thank everyone from the Taco for showing up and doing something.

Why was Supertopo not one of the Facelift sponsors this year?

That is what I am wondering.

Reptile relocated. Constriction restrictions may apply.

The caduceus is the traditional symbol of Hermes
and features two snakes winding around an often winged staff.
