I've Got Five Minutes

I've got five whole minutes
To write a poem for you
This week has been too busy
It's the best that I can do

We trained a newbe at my work
After vetting three hundred resumes
He's doing great's all I can say
Couldn't have it any other way

I climbed and trimmed on Monday
On Tuesday let them have their way
On Wednesday I cut down a tree
These climbing bone's seen better days

Yesterday the well got fixed
We split two cord and washed four trucks
Today I paid my credit bill
This week I spent five thousand bucks

Today I'm busy all day long
On Saturday I'm busy too
On Sunday I'll expire
And so for now must bid adieu

Five minutes went by
And so, "what's up?"
Enough of me
My time is up

In brief, thank you, bushman, for paying a visit and your credit bill.
You are, like, DMT, a real fun guy to have about.

Choral didn't even climb (at least all that much)

but Earle was pretty good with words and they were good at finding stuff. Found around 1966, but probably done much earlier.

And what was Dylan up to thereabouts?

Listen to the hands, eh. Can you hear me now?

Can you repeat that?
Do you ask The Beatles that?

Just as I always thought. Another mystery solved. Circa 1961.

It was a hard rain falling which turned it into a hard dayz night out there on the hard pack.

The Uptown Theatre was the grand finale for the Will Horwitz theatre chain,
including an underground tunnel system
that connected the Uptown with his Texan and Iris theatres.

OBSCURITY

Unimportant, hidden away,
Seldom climbed or the subject of spray,
Sometimes tucked away
From the light of day
They lurk.

Up couloirs, gullies and bouldery gorges
The exploring climber always forges.
The obscure routes may scratch your itch
And thus they make your life more rich
Than doing routes that are done by hordes
Who don’t climb seeking the same rewards
As those who brave the long hike in
To climb where no one else has been.
--MFM, an obscure poet

I'll dedicate this one to Ed Hartouni, eminent obscurologist;
And also to Warbler, for all of his obscuribeta.*

Your Choice, America, and Good Luck

Whether Trumpet wins or Hillary grins
I just sit here thinkin’

Neither one has any reason for pride
Compared to Honest Abe Lincoln.

The day will come when one of them sits
In the office where he once sat

Neither one caring about telling the truth
Or wearing a stovepipe hat.

They’ll do what they do and screw you
You citizens of the US

They’ll keep on lying for four more years
Spreading their goddam BS.

It's Friday and I don't drink much any more so I don't hardly post to the Drinking While Posting thread.

And so, free the verse or die.

Screw-top You, or I am dry as the backside of Outhouse Rock

Besides posting while thinking about drinking
and indulging myself
I am trying to say how things are
as I see them
and am engaged and enraged with the scene
and the obscene
the lean and the mean and the snippy dogs
chasing their tails.

I try not to judge anything but beer
but it's queer
that despite my abstention from whetting my whistle
I still want to guzzle and put in front of my muzzle
out in the hills north of town
a row of beer cans filled with water
and see if I can hit one or two.

It's not a bad day to do that I see
and I'm thinking of leaving
to do something like that
but with my Canon instead
of a big killing device because mice
can't handle the noise.

I can and (or could, but) I can not drink too much any more
because my heart might become mighty sore
the more that I drink the more that I risk
so gimme some tea, some o' that Lipton so brisk.

Why am I not out climbing instead of thinking about drinking?

No particular reason but there are several, let me tell ya.

Settin' 'em up & knockin' em down.Trolls

They set you up to take a fall
They always seem to have a ball
When someone bites in a furious rush
Then has to recant and blush
Because he was not so wise as we
Who waited, counting one two three

I’ve been fooled and so have you
I’ll bet old Cmac’s been trolled, too
It always seems so silly, eh?
To see a grown man faked that way
But it happens to the best of us
The jaded and the curious

Guest thread.

Got L'attitude?
Chris Columboast, social climber
"Climbing the Gates of Hell"

I've been a bit pensive about my claim to finding the Americas first.

It has been brought to my attention that a certain northman, Eric the Well-Read has the first claim.

I think it may be spurious, but then, it's not recorded in the tomes and maps and historical accounts which I have researched, given the blessing of the mighty magnate of the Kingdom of Portugal to do so at his place on the coast.

That was long ago, and it's water under the bridge, however.

I've come to the simple conclusion that it doesn't matter, simply because there were settlers here before I got here, and really, I hate that bitch Isabella like poison.

I could have done much better had there been no interfering priests along for the ride. I've even heard tales of Irish priests landing in the Americas before me. Why bother with more of those pests?

I just would like to say that if I've offended anyone, aborigine or peon, that greed made me do it, not sanctity.

I feel lots better now.

I have a bunk-mate here in the Bad Place.

His name is Junipero.

His tale is much the same as mine, except he was canonized a saint by that damned Holy Church.

Be seeing some of you soon.

XOXOXO.

Quite the full gamut
Crossing the moraine.
Backing up the boulders
At bergshund in the rain.
Large drops, of water
pelt our Cagoule's,
Splatter'd water on
Already num hands.
It might be snow
Higher up?
A climbing story
One of suffering
And Triumph
The summit glanced
Strode over while
Storm clouds parted
The only sunshine
On that August day.

Oot

The gamut of my Mammut
As G'narly as G'nute's
Weren't as warbly as Warbler's
Rock encountered route
Nor as rollicking as G'narliqin's
Bonanza bunkhouse boot
But I'll trade Monday for Saturday
The gamut's as gut' as gut'
