^^^^Sounds good, like a full-choke auto.

Bob Drillin, everyone. Give him a round (of applause).[Click to View YouTube Video]Go someplace quieter and higher.

Even the Hills North of Town
Though they're turning brown
But crispy though they be
It's a better place, UC.

Or we could flow uphill to the ditch
It depends on how bad is our itch
You know I am not very rich
But into the tank I can pitch
Maybe ten bucks or so
That's not very much dough
I thought you should know...

I'm at your beckoning call.

Social Security Guard

They bored a hole into my brain
With no anesthesia while I was sleeping
Without my consent
When first they started it woke me up
As they shaved a spot in the back of my scalp
I cried out for them to stop
I begged them to release me
But as my loved ones held me down
I cursed and disowned them

The pain was so excruciating I passed out
Soon after I was dead
The surgeons had all gone
My soul and my family members sat around
We discussed all the gruesome particulars
I asked them why they did this to me
They said it was inevitable

Next time I die I would prefer not to have any semblance of a soul
Nor any hereafter
It would be much less painful that way
And far less complicated

Twenty One Thousand, Four Hundred, and Seventy Eight Days

Just Yesterday she kissed my cheek
Once my mother held me to her breast
It was long ago I know
But feels like only yesterday
When first she took me to my school
But now she's gone so far away
Since my first crush and broken heart
It seems like only yesterday
A lover held me in her arms
Since I learned broken hearts would mend
But for every person that I've loved
The pain was tenfold multiplied
When love was lost or people died

The bones were set and the cast applied
The stitches and the surgery done
"Take these pills until they're gone"
I cursed myself time and again
For hastiness and ignorance
I was too stubborn to allow
Experience to become my friend
Unloving and unkind was I
Hard on myself until the day
I saw my mother waste away
And swore I would not let the fates
Suffer me thus my dying day
Little did I know back then
It isn't always up to us
When things just happen anyway

Once my children followed me
Over hill and sometimes under hell
Again like only yesterday
My grandchildren they did the same
Now some they've grown and gone away
Doing things like I once did
I've told them all a thousand times
Please don't do what Papa did
But defiantly they've stood up to me
And told me what was what instead

Like it happened only yesterday
Standing looming to come in
Near the bedside of my loving wife
The reaper almost called her in
So soon the time since yesterday
When cold and heartless death came near
I sought to hold its clutch at bay
Though yesterday's no judge of time
I hope for now she's here to stay

I know that just since yesterday
I could've died so many times
But reflect instead to long for this...
The little moments that I find
Remembering those that I have loved
Though so many thousand days gone by
For what seems like only yesterday
I've lived these moments long enough
To see our lives are somewhat like
The beauty of a sunrise
And in these moments all I have
To remember them that way
Until the final sunset
Upon our final day

"...our lives are somewhat like the beauty of a sunrise and in these moments all I have..."

Sharing the entrances and exits of the players in our life's stage production ...priceless.

It takes courage, as well, for ghosts are sometimes not easy to lay to rest,
as are children, who are so eager to know it all that sleep is like a test,
for them an outrageous curtailment of their simple quest
to see what life is made of:

repetition of a daily theme which revolves around the central star.

Heaven can wait.

I still have much for which to thank the Creator, or Watchmaker, or whoever holds the key that winds this universe.

Getting from there to here was a trip.

Thanks to everyone who had a hand in my journey to date.

A little gift from me to you on my birthday, this excellent documentary on the Great Indian Railway.

More to come later on.

http://www.hellotravel.com/stories/most-famous-trains-in-worlds-history

This train is having one of the oldest and longest rail networks which are still used in India.
Its final destination was Peshawar (which is now a city in Pakistan) before the partition of India.
After the partition this train started running between Amritsar and Bombay (Now Mumbai).
It covers up its present day journey in 32 hours passing by 33 halts.

Threshold
--Rabindranath Tagore

I was not aware of the moment
when I first crossed the threshold of this life.

What was the power that made me open out into this vast mystery
like a bud in the forest at midnight!

When in the morning I looked upon the light
I felt in a moment that I was no stranger in this world,
that the inscrutable without name and form
had taken me in its arms in the form of my own mother.

Even so, in death the same unknown will appear as ever known to me.
And because I love this life,
I know I shall love death as well.

The child cries out
when from the right breast the mother takes it away,
in the very next moment to find in the left one its consolation.

It may seem weird that a "car club" thread encompasses not just cars but trains; the disciplines of climbing, music, poetry, art, and photography; and now airplanes.

I've had Garp-like sensations recently, but they are not as frequent as they used to be. I enjoy the feeling of flying in a dream, especially when I'm sleeping.

I have a feeling that I would not be a very good pilot but could be trusted to navigate.

Or in the case of the Vimy, I could be both the navigator and the bombardier. We Flames like to see things blown to heck. Well, I do, anyway. I'm a twisted old (FQR).

I shot these on the floor of the waiting room outside the Doc's office yesterday. I found the NG in the magazine rack.

It's a long article, even by NG standards, but they covered a lot of ground.

Bob Dylan quotes:

1. “A hero is someone who understands the responsibility of their freedom.”

2. “I define nothing … I take each thing as it is, without prior rules about what it should be.”

3. “Some people feel the rain, others just get wet.”

4. “People seldom do what they believe in. They do what is convenient, then repent.”

5. “Everything passes, everything changes. Just do what you think you should do.”

6. “What’s money? A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and goes to bed at night and in between does what he wants to do.”

7. “When you feel in your gut what you are and then dynamically pursue it -- don’t back down and don’t give up -- then you’re going to mystify a lot of folks.”

8. “Inspiration is hard to come by. You have to take it when you find it.”

9. “You’ll never be greater than yourself.”

10. “Money doesn’t talk, it swears.”

11. “Sometimes it’s not enough to know what things mean, sometimes you have to know what things don’t mean.”

12. “Act the way you’d like to be and soon you’ll be the way you’d like to act.”

13. “Swallow your pride, you will not die. It’s not poison.”

14. “Don't matter how much money you got, there's only two kinds of people: there's saved people and there's lost people.”

15. “You learn from a conglomeration of the incredible past -- whatever experience gotten in any way whatsoever.”

16. “Don't criticize what you can't understand.”

17. “Gonna change my way of thinking, make myself a different set of rules. Gonna put my good foot forward and stop being influenced by fools.”

18. “When you've got nothing, you've got nothing to lose.”

19. “Destiny is a feeling you have that you know something about yourself nobody else does. The picture you have in your own mind of what you're about will come true. It's a kind of a thing you kind of have to keep to your own self, because it's a fragile feeling, and you put it out there, then someone will kill it. It's best to keep that all inside.”

20. “If you try to be anyone but yourself, you will fail; if you are not true to your own heart, you will fail. Then again, there's no success like failure.”

Not a word about the Vimy?

Everyone has birthdays but not everyone has a Vickers Vimy.

And not everyone has a belayed birthday greeting from a member of the Drunk Poets' Society, so...

Thanks for the rope, Bushman.

And thanks for the greeting, Cosmici --
and BTW, I left a little something on the Ready-to-Wear Donald Thread, Dwain.

Now is the time we Flames like to play, It's your turn to traverse.

Sorry there's no pro, but PLEASE don't fall.

You want to rig a back-rope, you say?

How you gonna do that?

The haul bag is already over here.

You'll just have to DO IT, BRO!

You'll have to trust me and trust yourself, because if you back-rope with the lead rope, it's too short and you'll have to untie.

And so I can talk you across, but you can do it blindfolded, it's that simple.

It's just that the exposure is so wild, isn't it?

You say you'll take the risk of untying?

I don't think you'll find a place to set any pro to do that.

I already looked and there is nothing, man.

You'll be totally on your own so don't blow it, dude.

STay tuned to see does he make it safely or not.

Meanwhile, think about buying some of this stuff and we'll be back sometime later.

WHOA, DUDE! You shoulda told me you were untying. Can you hear me?

Never mind about the next installment, folks.

Keep yer mimsies fresh, ladies.

"Now we can get on with the real climbing."--John Salathe in the LA Chimney

How To Stem Global Warming, 5.12c

Start early, around ten thirty.
Get some Krusteaz in ya.
Drink a half-quart of freeze-dried coffee--make sure it's tepid.
Roll a fatty and smoke it with while you are off in the talus "meditating"
while your partner cleans up his pancake mess,
but bring back the roach and tell him you found it on the trail.

Now head to the john for ten minutes of bliss while you take a long piss.
(And you might wanna take your toothbrush, Sweet Lips.)
Grab your rope and grab your rack, you guys made the bus in seconds flat.
(That's always a good omen.)
Get off the bus at the Cathedral stop, back up the Northside trail you bop.
You find the climb is occupied, you sit down to get your two brains fried.
(You've rolled an extra fattie for just this event.)
The party ahead comes off pitch two, saying we've had it guys, good luck to you.
You ask why they came down so quickly, the second pitch it made them sickly.
You've got so buzzed that you don't care. Your pro is racked and you're prepared.
Up you go after your buddy's lead. He yells "On Blee Yay!" and you proceed.
You're climbing with such haste and speed of the belay there is no need.
Your arrive up there with time to spare. You spark another, hey you don't care.
You take the sharp end and go ahead. Your legs you need to spread and spread.
The way is straight, your legs are strong, but a little short, now something's wrong.
The corner is wider than you expected. The thing's not very well-protected.
You inch upwards thinking, "I seem to be sinking. I wish this was over--I could be in the bar drinking.
Oh, why oh why, did we try this sh#t. I don't think I can get up it."
Grab a knob and rest one thigh. Shake it out and give a sigh.
Better move, no place to rest. Keep on going, you'll pass the test.
Don't give in to gravity. "Wow, that's bad pain in my right knee."
You're gettin' too old for this stuff. You're a gnarly thirty, but you're real tough.
An inch at a time---this ain't 5.9.
Move hand here, stre-e-e-tch foot to there. Try not to split your derriere.
(Or your infinitive.)
One delicate move and you are done. You yell down, "Come on up, son."
You rap the route, now you must scoot. For an after-climb beer there's no substitute.
Back to Camp 4 you haul your ass. You crack a beer and pour a glass.
To your partner you give accolades. You let him wear your Gucci shades.
He toasts your skill and says "You rock! Let's have another, we're off the clock."
