Ranking the second in the Chinese zodiac, Ox is the symbol of diligence in Chinese culture.
People under the sign of the Ox are usually hard working, honest, creative, ambitious, cautious, patient and handle things steadily.
On the negative side, Ox people might be stubborn, narrow-minded, indifferent, prejudiced, slow and not good at communication.

LOVE ME I'M A LIBERAL
Phil Ox

İ cried when they shot Medgar Evers
Tears ran down my spine
I cried when they shot Mr. Kennedy
As though I'd lost a father of mine
But Malcolm X got what was coming
He got what he asked for this time
So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal

I go to civil rights rallies
And I put down the old D.A.R.
I love Harry and Sidney and Sammy
I hope every colored boy becomes a star
But don't talk about revolution
That's going a little bit too far
So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal

I cheered when Humphrey was chosen
My faith in the system restored
I'm glad the commies were thrown out
of the A.F.L. C.I.O. board
I love Puerto Ricans and Negros
as long as they don't move next door
So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal

The people of old Mississippi
Should all hang their heads in shame
I can't understand how their minds work
What's the matter don't they watch Les Crain?
But if you ask me to bus my children
I hope the cops take down your name
So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal

I read New republic and Nation
I've learned to take every view
You know, I've memorized Lerner and Golden
I feel like I'm almost a Jew
But when it comes to times like Korea
There's no one more red, white and blue
So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal

I vote for the democratic party
They want the U.N. to be strong
I go to all the Pete Seeger concerts
He sure gets me singing those songs
I'll send all the money you ask for
But don't ask me to come on along
So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal

Once I was young and impulsive
I wore every conceivable pin
Even went to the socialist meetings
Learned all the old union hymns
But I've grown older and wiser
And that's why I'm turning you in
So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal

Now I may have had a thought of at least another oldie from the age of swing but I will leave it to others to wow us instead.

Remember? His first book was a tremendous article in NatGeo. About the Gift Fleet.

Do you guys know about the Galleons of Spain, sending treasure and communications through Mexico City? I was talking with the Postmaster of the RPI at a Philatelist's event in Chicago some years ago, and he showed me his display of the letters from Asia that were sent through Mexico City to the Pacific. Consul Balmesada had provided me with an introduction. So neat, to talk with someone who knew some of the family who stayed in RPI. One of the safe places to go, from Spain, in those interesting years around 1500. :) Makes for interesting bits of family history.

Peace and Light to us all,

Well!
Thank you, zB!
That was uplifting!
Especially since I skipped Meeting this morning to stack firewood and help with sawing up one big, dead, toppled ponderosa pine. We were out in G*d's playground, rather than in our own self-imposed lovely, warm cage. :)

So, thank you for a nice ending to the day.
I am also enjoying all the postcards. Thank you Mouse.

Tomorrow is Monday! Egads!

Beautiful Dreams to us All. :)

I always think of it as a place of arts, music, music, arts, and water all around. And the Cloisters. And MUSEUMS. Totally a tourist perspective.

I got lost on all the political threads lately and I don't think I have the stomach or temperament and have been bouncing around on the stuportopico for a bitter bit now and for once it was nice to stop in here and see my young old side going along with the flow beside the fire with some vinyl and the old log cabin warm glow bookshelves full of memories and the oh so mellow conversation of the few who seem to get along so well it's just the bushy bullshit bushman at it again he'd like to take his shoes off and sit a spell.
This is one of my most cherished memories and thought it might visit here for a while before it decides where next to go.

Hi Bushman,
Welcome here. Pull up a pile of photons and sit a spell, for sure. Nice to see you.

I don't know if I've seen that image that you posted ^ before. Is there a link to the story? Or are you the link? I had just shared a link to our ice tower (in Fairbanks) with a guy in another forum, and later, I'll tell him the story. People in Arizona were complaining about the cold, then thought better of it when one guy from Alaska mentioned ice quakes.

Yes, the Flames is certainly a sanctuary, a place of peace, here on the Taco. We have such an interesting anthropology of the tribe here. So many beautiful spirits gathered around a shared passion, then dancing off in individual, unique directions, listening to our own songs of life. Lovely.

Tomorrow is Monday. Much to do. Time to sleep.
Beautiful dreams to you, Bushman

Perhaps the the polutard threads help send you off to bed?
They do me at three or four am - for sure, while they also depress me.
I almost never go to them . I do not get the level of vitriol, hypocrisy
and misplaced disrespect that, like the bristles on a brush, get so tangled and
covered by the detritus of life as to be unrecognizable. One can easily forget that all

I just put more wood in the fire, and it is very chilly here tonight, so I may be up again to keep the house at a comfortable 64F.

Oh, gosh, Gnome, he looks so amazingly young! Maybe he had stage fright.

And yes, the pollard threads get pretty ego-driven and rambunctious sometimes. LOL, I think about all they teach us is to stay away from them. LOL

Have a good night of sleep, rest, relaxation, and beautiful dreams.

The 1964 Quest (Canadian) TV songs seemed even glazier [don't confuse with glacier].

They seem to come and go on utube. I guess somebody complains about coyrights.

Steal, steel, Stihl.
[Click to View YouTube Video]While we were sleeping suddenly we hit the ground.

Ouch! (RIP)

Various steel stories.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damascus_steel

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toledo_steel

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krupp

http://www.stihlusa.com/information/corporate/about-us/stihl-company-history/

I cannot imagine that the 1421 Chinese gift to the Pope of steel manufacturing secrets had much of an impact on Damascus, where the papal influence was nil. Nor could it have affected much the production of Toledo steel, which had largely died off by the 1400s, apparently.

That's one kind of steel.

The Stihl brand is the leader in overall sales, except in Big Box stores.

Husqvarna seems to be the choice of most serious cutters, however. Ask Flip Flop. Ask Norwegian.

IRON
Woodkid

Deep in the ocean, dead and cast away
Where innocence is burned in flames
A million mile from home, I'm walking ahead
I'm frozen to the bones, I am...

A soldier on my own, I don't know the way
I'm riding up the heights of shame
I'm waiting for the call, the hand on the chest
I'm ready for the fight and fate

The sound of iron shocks is stuck in my head,
The thunder of the drums dictates
The rhythm of the falls the number of deaths
The rising of the heights ahead

From the dawn of time to the end of days
I will have to run away
I want to feel the pain and the bitter taste
Of the blood on my lips again

The steady burst of snow is burning my hands,
I'm frozen to the bones, I am
A million mile from home, I'm walking away
I can't remind your eyes, your face

Herr E's rack would have sounded more like click click than clang clang, which these pitons would have. Note the "clean" look of the hammer and these pitons. It's a trick: they are unclean!

Peter Piton Passer knows, but don't care. But he probably has a valid "license to drive" in both Canada and the USA. So it's all good, Doctor Piton.

We shan't go into the morass of material on steel strings for fretted instruments.

You used to ride on the chrome horse with your diplomat
Who carried on his shoulder a Siamese cat
Ain't it hard when you discover that
He really wasn't where it's at
After he took from you everything he could steal

The Freewhinnying Bob Dylan.

She wasn't really where it's at enough, obviously.

TUNGSTEN
Words and music by Malvina Reynolds;
copyright 1968 Schroder Music Company,
renewed 1996.

Chorus:
Tungsten, wolfram, makes the steel so hard.
It goes thru the side of an army tank as tho it were a paper card.
If you want to rule the world, never mind wrong or right,
All you got to have is tungsten wolframite.

There's only one thing in all this world hard as the tungsten steel,
That's the heart of a financier working on a tungsten deal.
Only one thing in all this world hard as the tungsten kind,
It's a diplomat with tungsten on his mind.

(Chorus)

The air is full of heavy words all about democracy,
And the boys they fight in many lands to keep the free world free,
And the words have a beautiful ringing sound that keeps us all up tight,
But the fact of the matter is tungsten wolframite.

(Chorus)

Tungsten, wolfram, what a happy sound,
Tungsten in stockpiles and underneath the ground,
Tungsten in China, sheelite in Malay,
But there are no tungsten mines in the USA.

(Chorus)
