Jim, if I remember correctly, we lived for three weeks off roadkill moose our last time in the Kichatna Spires... Buried it deep in the glacier, remembered not to dump the piss bottle out that end of the tent, and fried it up with garlic and onions damn never every day.

Also, is there anyone going who would like to ride share from the Bay Area/Sacramento/Tahoe area? I'm happy to either drive or ride.

I could post up pics of flayed marmots that the Rooskies munched on in the
Pamirs and then turned the skins into mukluks, or fur-lined jock straps.
I forget, but I definitely DID KNOTT eat them! I said I could post pics but
I don't want PETA down on me.

Mike, you know the cave? I backed my Volvo wagon right in there and opened
the tailgate to let the tunes blast! It had 6" of straw wall to wall that some
cowboys put in there - it was heaven!

i would do roadkill moose. Rodents I'm not too fond of. Unless you have a real rustic Aglianico and yeah, some wild mushrooms.... and ....drool.... drrrriink... drool.... what kinda mushrooms were those....oh feck, is that my face?... drool....

Did anybody know that bad meat can make you hallucinate?

My weekly post is more than "Bump." I'll be bringing a case of Bolla Italian wine, probably Bardolino. I drove and/or rode past the winery bottling facility in Trento several times last Fall.

Wayno-I haven't found a store here with Marzemino.

Good luck with that, Roger. I have rarely seen any in stores. Maybe a good small wine shop that has a lot of old-world stuff. But worry not, I can get some In fact, I'll get a couple. Did you try any Teroldego or Schiava or Lagrein when you were there? And what about those whites?

I did try a Teroldelgo, which I enjoyed. I haven't tried both Daveco Liquors or Superior Liquors in Colorado yet. They both have massive wine stocks.

As many of you know, I am now retired and living on a budget. I'm sorry to report that budget constraints only allow me to bring one bottle of Italian wine to share at our get-together.

Banfi Centine Toscana 2011. Hope it tastes ok.

Jeroboam! Sweet. At least it looks like one. 5 liters? I have had that wine before. It is a sangiovese, cab, merlot blend that sees some new oak. Meant to be enjoyed young, fruity, nicely rich. Perfect for pizza, pasta, or just a bunch of friends. sluurrp. Banfi is a large and well respected producer of quality wines at all price levels. Good score, Fritz.

Last year I brought a bunch of wine that we never even touched. Probably because everyone else brought wines, too. Oh well, better than running out and having to go buy some crap in the middle of nowhere. Just for shits and giggles, let's start a wine list...???

I believe I brought a half case of 1.5 Liter Banfi Pinot Noir last year. None of it was wasted. Also had some Bardolino and Valpolicella. Those were all Trentino varieties, I believe?

Banfi is mostly in Tuscany, I think. I could be wrong, as they may have stuff going on in other regions. Valpolicella is more of a Veneto wine and Bardalino is a lighter wine made from the same grapes from the area west of the south end of Lake Garda. To the North of Garda is the Trentino Region. There might be some wines with those grapes from Trentino, but they can't call it Bardolino unless it comes from a specific locality.

They are not what they used to be. Now they can use them fancy French grapes in there like Cabernet and Merlot. Probably a good move, as wine sales are more international. There are actually five Chianti zones, Classico being the most recognized.

I got yer umlaut. You like gewurtz? I love it. Italy has some good expressions of this "grape". Has anyone here ever had a Kerner? Or a Veltliner? There is some magic going on in Alto Adige. Should I give a primer?
