sadly, i do not even know WHAT kind of tires i have, and we are
winter-snow-and-ice state... i do not drive all over the place
like you all do... my ex son in law, knows what these tires are...

even though i do not drive much, someday, i will look into this tire
stuff, and get a better set up...

congrats on the vehicle, there, daphne, :)

say, i wonder, and will look up now, HOW the groveland area, will be

Tad, first round is Thurs afternoon/evening.

Damn, I see we have to play Enterprise in the first game. Tough to play the home team in the first round. 7PM Thurs. That means the Friday game will be at 5:30 or 7PM depending on the outcome.

Tires are the most underestimated and important part of your car, no other part touches the road. The best brakes in the world will be cancelled out on poor tires, the best AWD system will be cut far below potential on poor tires.

One sad thing about tires is the way they name them. Bridgestone used to make 5 different versions of the Potenza. They were used as stock tires on a lot of vehicles. Some of the versions got an okay rating on snow and ice, but others had a very hard rubber for driving on hot highways. Those versions were great for lots of miles on hot roads, but very poor in winter conditions. The problem was that people would see that a Potenza tire did decent on snow and ice in some tire review and they wouldn't realize that there were different versions of it. Thats what happened to my friend.

Potenza is a product line, not a tire model. There are many potenza models, from crap to top shelf. There are some A/S potenza, but are generally not exceptional tires (except at the upper level, when they are actually quite good), mediocre in the wet, dry, and light snow, they do nothing exceptionally well, but arent BAD. There are A/S, performance, and competition potenzas. Its just a word, like turanza and blizzak. Off the top of my head I can count a dozen potenza models.

Thanks for the tire hints. I will take it easy-- Im used to a front wheel drive so i may not notice much. I wont replace these tires till they wear out but when they do getting the ones kunlun_shan recommended will be a priority.

Subaru is famous for putting poor tires on their cars. Ive had 7 subarus. I also have a new Forester, it comes on yokohama geolandar G91F (geolandar is similar to potenza in that its a name applied to many tires of different models). They are also quite mediocre, not bad, but painfully droll in the wet, dry, off road, and light snow, have poor treadwear characteristics, and are expensive to buy (though you never would, better tires can be had for cheaper). They have become known as 'geoscreamers' for their tendency to be hugely loud and screamy when pushed even moderately toward their limit. Youd think you were cornering 5g's. They are also poor in the snow, but again, not BAD if you only hit snow occasionally. Ive swapped them for winter tires, they are hopeless up here. They will go back on in may or june.

When you put better tires on your subaru, it really becomes a wonderful car. For reference, heres the original tire for the new forester base, premium, and limited, not touring or XT:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Yokohama&tireModel=Geolandar+G91F&partnum=26HR7GEOHT&vehicleSearch=true&fromCompare1=yes&autoMake=Subaru&autoYear=2015&autoModel=Forester&autoModClar=2.5i%20Premium&tab=Survey

Compare that to the winter tire I use on both my subarus and my girlfriends subaru as well:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Goodyear&tireModel=Ultra+Grip+Ice+WRT&partnum=26SR7UGIWRTV2&vehicleSearch=true&fromCompare1=yes&autoMake=Subaru&autoYear=2015&autoModel=Forester&autoModClar=2.5i%20Premium&tab=Survey

They have been putting crappy tires on cars for decades, as they are a small company and most manufacturers do the same. My WRX came with incredibly poor Potenza RE92, a widely known poor tire. Ive conversely used both potenza RE010 and S-04 on the same car, and both were brilliant, yet summer only, tires.

hey there say, survival and all... hope you all do well as it passes through...

Go here: tirerack.com put in your vehicle info, it will show you what your car came with, and what they have for your car. You can click winter or original equipment, whatever you need. The goodyear snow tires are very good and are on rebate right now, along with other brands. OE tires are generally overpriced as a moneymaker, since most people just say 'put another set of whatevers on there' without any thought.

You can also go here to learn and dork out. Read the beginning of it, the user posts are just like here, most of them dont know what the crap they are talking about, cant spell or type, and just muck it up, but the beginning, from the author is sound.

Because we all know that socal is the only place in the world!

After stealing water all these decades they find themselves worried about water!

Imagine that.

Weird.

No offence taken. My sentence here behind the Orange Curtain is thankfully temporary. Once my penance has been paid, I will return to the North from whence I came.

It drives me crazy the way SoCal has damaged the rest of the state due through water usage and continued overbuilding.

The only way this storm will be a catastrophe is if it blows out all of Mulhollands dams and pipes.

And then only for people who were stealing the water.
