For us PNW and CA folks.
Sounds like the storm predicted for the next couple days could be a good one.
"Could" get a lot of snow up high.
"Could" have flooding in the cities.
"Could" have mudslides.
"Could" have high winds, downed trees, power outages.
Me? I'm working on it today.
*My generator is ready to go, since power outage isn't that unusual in the foothills.
*Just started on cleaning gutters (again).
*Securing lots of loose stuff, since the wind can rock out here.
How about you? Are you doing anything to prepare?

I rolled up the window on my car. heh heh… thats all folks
but then.. I'm not in the mountains anymore. :-)
Is there really anything special about this storm, or are they just hyping it because they haven't had a regular storm in awhile and its a slow news time? I don't get the cali news where I am. I'm hoping y'all get a nice big dump.
this is accuweathers forecast for Yosemite. Doesn't sound like much.
weather underground is saying Yosemite gets less then an inch. That hardly gets the ground wet. Yet they have a flood warning up. Sounds like typical california hype. Plus they just don't know.

Meh, only 60 mph winds predicted for the coast up here. Last year they were over 100 sustained. Couple years before they were hitting 125 when my neighbors anemometer blew off his roof. I think that was the year that the neighbor house blew apart and was all over the neighborhood. I always have 5 gallons extra gasoline stocked, candles and headlamps, all camping gear etc.
Ca needs this bad, so may it dump more rain than your reservoirs can hold but not cause any problems for y'all.

We'll get there TJI, THIS NEXT SEASON!!
Hey the chief, what does the bright orange over NorCal mean? Is that seriously 5 inches? Over what period?
Of course I'm concerned for hearth and home, but I'm also supposed to drive to Redding on Thurs and spend a couple days up there.

They usually mirror the governments, which is this..

I've got the scuba gear all tuned up and tested. So no matter how much it rains, I'll still be able to go down to the basement.

Thanks man.
Damn. But I have to go....this is one of my daughters most important tournaments of her junior year.
I just hope everyone arrives safe, stays safe, and gets home safe.
I don't worry so much for myself, I worry about all the many fools on the road who can't drive in adverse conditions.

Looks like we're going to be getting up to a foot of rain in some areas here. So, yeah, scuba gear on standby.
This is from wunderground's warning for the Seattle region:
...Heavy rainfall tonight through Wednesday will lead to an increase risk of landslides in western Washington... ...Strong winds possible across western Washington on Thursday...
Heavy rainfall of 9 to 13 inches in the Olympics and north Cascades with generally 2 to 6 inches elsewhere is expected during the two and half day period ending late Wednesday night. This amount of rain will put extra pressure on soil instability... leading to an increased risk of landslides.

100% chance of rain totaling 1/4" predicted for Beervana. Winds gusting to 20.... 56°
Looks to be bad at the coast , the Coast Range, and up the Columbia gorge, though.
They will be happy at Mount Hood Meadows.
Right now, though it looks like clear sailing to Smith Rock over the pass.

Waiting for the SoCal news:
Storm Watch 2014!
Cue exterior shot of weather model in full storm suit even thought no rain is falling:
Weather Model: "I'm standing outside <insert location> where just a few hours ago a sprinkle was reported.
Cut to file film of people walkng through small puddles in flip flops.
Weather Model: "Yes, the situation id dire. Several people have reported that they had to turn on their windhield wipers. One man reported having wet feet. When will it end?"
If we ever got real weather here the whole place would shut down.

Barbarian's post of course made me remember this hilarious clip from the Onion.
This will certainly occur in a few locations.

I also believe it's going to be well beyond normal bullshit in some places.
