Does the 5.10 outlet sale have rain boots?

Susan, you DO need more shoes!

Go for the Water Tennies, or maybe some Canyoneers ;-)

I'll be driving to work in my new Subaru Forester on Thursday, if the Golden Gate bridge hasn't been closed due to high winds. I'm wondering how different it will feel to drive in storm conditions in an AWD. We had the tree guys here last year to clear out old dead stuff so I am hoping we won't get anything falling on the house.

Congrats on the new forester!

The forester has a competent AWD, but its the tires that make a bigger difference in simply wet conditions. My friend spun out 2 times in a few weeks on icy roads in her new outback. I looked up the tires she had on it and they were meant for places like florida. They had a very poor rating on snow and ice. They put a fairly wide variety of tires on those vehicles. If you have been driving a front wheel drive, you might not notice much difference on wet roads. But if you have been driving a rear wheel drive, and it rains a lot, then there are times when you might notice that it pulls through deeper standing water better. It also sort of depends on how aggressive of a driver that you are. AWD won't help you stop. It will help you steer. Good tires are what help you stop.

I agree with John. Tires are everything when it comes to control on the road.

I ski and drive to the snow a lot in winter, and really like the Nokian WR G2s. They have a split tread pattern that works super well in slush and prevents hydroplaning. Perfect for the varied conditions driving from warmer temps to the Sierra. I leave them on year round.

The new model WR G2 is the Nokian All Weather +. http://www.nokiantyres.com/winter-tyres/nokian-all-weather-/

Am not trying to be a commercial.... its about what rubber sticks to the road.

One sad thing about tires is the way they name them. Bridgestone used to make 5 different versions of the Potenza. They were used as stock tires on a lot of vehicles. Some of the versions got an okay rating on snow and ice, but others had a very hard rubber for driving on hot highways. Those versions were great for lots of miles on hot roads, but very poor in winter conditions. The problem was that people would see that a Potenza tire did decent on snow and ice in some tire review and they wouldn't realize that there were different versions of it. Thats what happened to my friend.

I sure hope this storm goes a little further south.

Thanks for the tire hints. I will take it easy-- Im used to a front wheel drive so i may not notice much. I wont replace these tires till they wear out but when they do getting the ones kunlun_shan recommended will be a priority.

hey Daphne, I'm not saying that you have lousy tires. You may have good ones. Its just good to know what you have as that is the main component of stopping on wet roads.

Nice vehicle though. :-) Are you liking it?

…..

As for the reservoirs. They have plenty of room. some of the bigger ones are meant to take 3 years of wet weather to fill. Such as Shasta.

Wow, that wind map is trippy. It'll blow me right on up to Redding!

Tad, the tourney is at Enterprise this year. Why, you gonna come see a game? Amber hit three 3's in a row tonight, BANG BANG BANG! The opposing coach was shaking his head. I gotta go to every game so I don't miss those moments!

John, my Forester is awesome! I've been driving around enjoying all the non-broken things in it. Compared to my old Escape, over 13 years old and nearing 190000, its a luxurious change. Winter package means heated seats. Woohoo! Handles great. Drives quiet. Has all these little bells and whistles that make me smile. Cant wait to take it climbing and skiing.
