It does kind of suck to have to bend over to get into your bindings.
But nobody cares...

East Side and Eastman: Laughing loving your comments.

East Side I like Tele because of the movement. It is really complicated. I know there is movement (lots of it) on a board but I like the feeling on the two free heel boards.
I used to windsurf and I always wondered if the foot power worked the same way. On big boards you would plunge the right turning foot to go "down" and turn left into the wind. But on the smaller glass boards you would pull the right rail up to go left into the wind.

Always wanted to try boarding to see which way it worked on snow.

Eastman: In the photo He's trying to get his iphone out of his pocket. He'll go faster in a minute or two.

:)

Eastman thats not me in photo, a french friend from tignes way steeper than it looks lets see you make that move. Ha Ha ive never been accused of being afraid of speed . me in photos above. Petater, nothing like the leverage one can get on a board. give it a try it's a blast. cheers

I grew up skating/surfing, so I boarded from the ages of 20-25 around the central Sierra, S. Tahoe and the Eastside. I frikkin loved it!! When I moved to MT in 94 I wanted to find the Freedom of the Hills in the winter and there was no way I'd put snowshoes on so I tried tele. Immediately, I fell in love with the challenge and the feel of it. I think of it is similar to boarding in terms of the feel of the carve and initially you have your regular(regular stance) turn and your off(fakey) turn. I have tried alpine and felt none of that. I felt like a cat with masking tape on it's paw with the locked heel. I occasionally think about getting a board for the area but I always end up back on my FreelHeelers and in a couple weeks, I'll be on NTN for it's 'releaseness' for the first time and am stoked to try it.

That said, like EastSide says, there isn't really anything like a board in deep powder and I think it has a lot to do with the toe side/heel side edging as opposed to the sides of your feet....what do you think EastSide?

Just Giv'r!!

If you have the $ 1200.00 and like Dynafit bindings, these boots won't bury your front points...

Jim Brennan, re. Arcteryx Procline... Solomon's new X-Alp ski touring boot is modeled from the Procline, and will be cheaper and more widely available. Hopefully! The X-Alp is not yet for sale, though Lou Dawson is testing it: https://www.wildsnow.com/21423/salomon-ski-touring-x-alp-boot-mtn/

Salomon did a no-brainer here. They took the Arcteryx Procline form factor (the two companies are entwined) and presumably the same mold tooling, and made a full-on ski touring boot.

These boots keep getting better for function and dexterity, Jim.

Same Italian boot designer, Federico Sbrissa, behind the Dynafit TLT5, the Arcteryx Procline, and now base of the X-Alp.

Great shot Norm, I'm jealous. We've got good snow but not the snowpack you're on. Heading north come visit. We live out near Hyalite canyon. Best, Donnie

no offense Cragar, but looks to me Wilbeer is grooming for XC skiing. Yes what's now called "classic", sure you know. Some of the FS trails around Boz get occasional rolling, and certainly not suitable for xc skating. Best HC

I bought new XC skis last month and then went on a hut-to-hut trip in Maine. Hardly my most sizzling adventure, but at 68 I need to reduce the impact sports. Still feeling where I fell on my ice axe in the Airondacks early December.

eta: funny thing, the new XC skis, were around a foot less than my old ones.
