Cragar ,I do not know what to say,I still ski Voile 3 Pins,hate cables and stiffer set ups.

I will not ski non-release anymore and my terrain in the mountains isn't mellow enough for me to be comfy all locked in. 2 knee injuries finally got the point across to me! Of course, my friends say "well just don't wreck" but for me that isn't an option or my reality. I got the NTN bindings and boots and I will mount it up next week, just in time for the second part of a double-whammy of snow they are calling for!!

Any folks on here using the NTN boots/bindings, specifically the Freedom binding? Thoughts/ideas on touring and lift served with the NTN? Last year I wrenched my knee causing MCL/meniscus damage and will not ski and non-release again. I have been tele-ing for 20+ years. I tried Alpine a couple times and to it lacked any soul(sorry for the corny term) and flow to me. I grew up skating and surfing so I thought about split-boarding but I prefer to tour so the constant putting the board together and then taking apart is kind of a dealio breaker. So, NTN it is!
I've been Tele skiing for 30 years or so, starting on pins and leather and upgrading in increments through the years. I've now been skiing NTN for about 6 years or so skiing and touring on Freedoms since late 12 or early 13, I like the system quite a bit, I like the Freedoms better than the older Freerides but I like the Meidjo more than both of them. Although both of the Rottefella bindings can and do release, I have released from them, they are not guaranteed to release, I did break my ankle skiing in Freerides 5 years ago burying a tip in real tricky snow.

Toured on those bindings last spring, way lighter than any other comparable Tele binding, tours great, and can release at the toe or heel (underfoot?)

Gunks Ray? What ski and boot would you marry to that binding?
Only 3 boots currently made for that binding, Scarpa TX Pro, Crispi Evo NTN, and Crispi Shiver NTN. I'm using both the Scarpa TX Pro and the now out of production Scarpa TX which is a lighter 3 buckle boot than the TX Pro and my preferred boot for touring. If you get one of the Crispi's make sure it's the latest model with the Dynafit fittings in the toe.
The Meidjo binding is pretty powerful and adjustable for skiing style, very precise with virtually no toe slop or play in the binding, and it has an adjustable heel release (second heel?)You could pretty much mount it on any ski, spent a day skiing all over Mammoth last spring with no binding issues at all, but the binding really shines on a light ski in the back country.
I have mine mounted on a pair of G3 Carbon Synapse 101's really light ski best for skiing spring skiing corn or good powder, but low tips make it problematic in any kind of mixed or difficult snow conditions. I'm just about to mount them to a pair of Dynastar Mythic 97's which I think will be a really great combo for pretty much any condition.
Anybody want to buy a pair of G3 Carbon Synapse 101 skis 170cm cheap?

Thanks Gunks RAYgun! I really appreciate it. I got the TX Comps and Freedom bindings. I wanted the TX Pro but a buddy was adamant that the bellows were too soft and I trust his words. We get good powder but we also get a mix of PNW heavy with a little N. Rockies cream and the soft bellows can be sucky in the mix or reef conditions. I have mostly used T-Race with much pleasure. Have you felt this? I don't mind the extra 'struggle' in the BC as I am used to heavy non-free pivot traps! No more traps! I will mount the Freedoms on my G3 Tonics and go from there... I might try some more new-school ski but have no idea what to look at so I'll continue to drink the Tonics for a bit..

Cragar, TX Comps and Freedoms are a good match, I've got a pair of Comps as well and I've skied that combo, although I generally like softer boots, but I'm only 5'8" 160lbs. I like the Freedom better than the Freeride as do others, but some have a problem with the low heel on the Freedom which is lower than most other Tele bindings.
The Comp Weighs the same as the Pro so with a free pivot binding it tours just as well as the Pro. There are more than a few skiers who would love to see the Comp with Tech Toe fittings for the Dynafit style bindings but it doesn't look like that is going to happen anytime soon.
Have a blast with the new gear!
I had a great time skiing Big Sky and Moonlight 4 years ago with the Tx Pro and the Freedoms mounted on a pair of DPS 112rp skis, worked for me on pretty much all the terrain, but we didn't get anything heavy or deep while we were there.

Yeah, I read about the lower heel plate and figure maybe a shim if I can't handle it?

The hard part is choosing which spine to shred.
And the 100 ft alder covered cliff at the bottom to deal with.

Well did the bullet and got an AT setup. Will probably still tele occasionally but nobody cares anyway so who cares.

Deffenately have a learning curve on the flats with the at gear. Don't miss the weight though. Was bummed that my crampons did not fit the boots though. Also someone needs to make a leather ice climbing boot comparable with tech bindings.

I could probably levitate those boots. Bet they sell for half or less within a year. Seems like a lot of new technology is not well designed or durable. Ski boots of look like they have for so long for a reason I would imagine.
