I think beach-side sites at Carlsbad are 55 a night, parking is 6 bucks a night per car, two free cars. Trailer counts as a car. Motel 6 about a mile away is cheaper

This is just too bad.
That ranger is only human.
He did take every last one of the bad steps in order to end up in this mess.
So, I feel nothing for the ranger - anyone going to take the side that tries to support that this ranger was in control and was trying his best within his personal alcohol problem to just do his job?

No, I am on the side that says he was begging for help, and now he has it along with this on his record.

The bigger question I have is: How many humans in how many occupations would it take for you to notice a pattern?

If any of us pulled a stunt like this we would be trying to figure out
how to get our car out of impound right about now.

If you want to drink on the job ... be a bartender.

That's how I did it. At one of the joints I worked, my boss would pour me a whiskey - or two - the minute I showed up for work.

Hopefully he got a good look at the toilets in the County Jail, because they're a hell of a lot cleaner there than anything you'll see in a State Park for thirty-five bucks a night.

Look's to me he's one of us! I'm inclined to hear more of the story before any "judgement." I can say such a pose was never possible for me; in a vehicle, that is. But backcountry? I can neither confirm nor deny. . . .

I have more sympathy for the Kings County deputy. Seems like firing was a bit extreme for his case.

From the Kings County article

Richtmyer is the second deputy fired by Urquhart this week. Darrion Holiwell, who has been charged with helping his wife work as a prostitute, stealing department ammunition and illegally delivering testosterone, was terminated on Tuesday.

I know testosterone will make you do same crazy sh@t, but pimping your wife out?

Nobody tatted up like Holiwell should have ever been a cop in the first place.

No surprise he was crooked.

He can't buy anything better than keystone light? That dude does have a problem. He's lucky some nutter didn't reach in the window and take his sidearm.

For *punishment*, he's been placed on paid leave. He earned himself a paid vacation! Just in time for Labor Day.

In a just world, he'd get this:

.. otherwise known as SLEEPING.
Big f*#king deal.

Who knows whether he was up all night because his wife left him and took the kids and dog, after finding out he had been sleeping with a co-worker.

Give the guy a break.

Like working for a roofing or tree surgery company with no benefits.

He's on PAID leave. Paid to stay home. That's a hell of a good deal for anybody. How much more of a break does he deserve?
