Please, again, do not put stock in the equipment failure line from the article, since they couldn't be bothered to confirm there is no "Liberty Wall" at Pinnacles I do not trust their information.
Charles
No need to be super cunt-y about it. Sheriff's officers (i.e. the people you call on first when there's an accident) make mistakes just like everyone else, and as you would know if you paid attention they corrected the statement: http://www.morganhilltimes.com/news/updated-morgan-hill-doctor-dies-in-climbing-accident/article_eb31cc40-0d1a-11e4-8f7f-001a4bcf6878.html
If you don't trust the sheriff's office don't call them the next time you're in trouble.
RIP Joseph Kraut

Terrible news. Dr Kraut was the nicest Dr I called on when I worked as a drug rep. Somehow I found out he was a climber and we talked climbing after that far more than we talked drugs. We were supposed to climb together, but never made it happen. RIP Dr Kraut.

If you don't trust the sheriff's office don't call them the next time you're in trouble. I don't and I won't.
But that has nothing to do with any of this tragedy. Nice first post.
Condolences to Joe's family and all who knew him.

Hello everyone. My name is Rebecca and Joe is my father. I agree with Charles as the article made me roll my eyes. I have not heard anything about an equipment malfunction. In addition, they called my stepmother "Rebecca Kraut" and she was born a "Becky." We are awaiting news from the coroner's office and I will gladly post as soon as I know.

Thank you Rebecca. Although I live in Morgan Hill, I didn't know your dad. I wish I had, he sounds like a really good guy.
Take care,

such a bummer hearing of this accident at pinnacles.
Sure the area is not granite so it is pretty unstable rock compared to other areas, but I dunno, I loved climbning at the Pinnacles, even though it was so unstable. I remember breaking holds off climbs each time I climbed them, so it is not inconcieable to imagine a lowering achor breaking loose there.
Paul.
