Talked to Geoff today, he bought his tickets for December. Annette (his girlfriend) is going and they are pretty excited about the trip. About $1,250 a ticket he said.
I will have to show your pics to them, thanks for posting up.

NZ is truly a wonderful place, even in winter. There is such an incredible variety of outdoor pursuits on offer.
Just off the top of my head there are two Christchurch trips that standout:
Castle Hill, about an hour and twenty minutes west from CHCH, a brilliant Summers day out.
Hanmer Springs, again, about an hour and half north-west of CHCH. With it's hot springs it's an excellent winter destination.
PS: Be sure they see my Castle Hill and Arthur's Pass threads.
