"America The Beautiful" - documentary about our obsession with beauty and how we will, and do, kill ourselves in its pursuit.

Yeah, when the trailers for WofWS came out, it looked very interesting...

Many who have seen it, though, say it's entertaining, except for the fact that the incredible damage those people created in the real world is just treated as laughable entertainment.

Feels just a little too much like the way Wall Street regards Main Street. Think I'll skip that one.

Just watched Great Budapest Hotel. Very good. Really liked it.

Saw Wolf of Wall Street recently. Didn't leave much impression.

It's a long time since I saw Django Unchained, but I think that was one of the best this last year. Scenes out of it has remained after I've forgotten which others I've seen.

There was a film with Russel Crowe and someone else, which wasn't bad. The someone else had a daughter. And then I know I went to the movies, but have totally forgotten what I saw. Can't have been very good.

"Whip It", directed by Drew Barrymore, about about a small town girl in Texas who 'finds herself'
through roller derby. Sounds corny but it was really good plus it had an awesome sound track.
Who knew kids in Texas listened to punk?

We went and saw "300" the other night.
Not bad. I'll watch it again. I'm into that kind of stuff.
What really got me was that a few people in the theater brought their little kids to see this movie.

Now, I'm not tryin' to be a prude, but this movie has some brutal battle scenes. I can remember at least 3 or 4 graphic decapitations. Plus, the sex scenes (including violent rape) are outrageous.

I actually said something to one lady afterwards (she had an infant and 3 toddlers), "Great movie for kids" . . .

In the last week I've seen:

"12 Years A Slave" was better than expected. Not too sappy and it keeps up the pace. Good soundtrack. Sort of avant-garde in its editing and presentation. I recommend it.

Disney's "Frozen" was a letdown. I liked its basic concept, and how it plays with the "kiss from prince charming" trope. But I found the pacing to be off, characters under developed, and there are some plot holes and contrivances which bothered me. Compared with the latest stuff from Pixar (like "Brave") the animation isn't all that great either.

"Schooled: The Price of College Sports" is a good documentary on the NCAA and exploitation of college athletes. Worth watching especially since the topic's been all over the news with the latest Supreme Court ruling.

On the plane to Italy last week I saw

All is Lost
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2017038/

Couldn't argue with the dialogue. Maybe 10 words spoken.

Also Part 2 of the Hobbit- Disappointing I thought.
