I admit this one needs a little work still, but you can't beat the Colorado location on the backside of the Maroon Bells just at the edge of the Snowmass wilderness area.
or the view in the opposite direction.

LOL! I think I'd get a goat for that.
Here are a couple of shots of the place we live in now. The first is from about 1943, when it was first built...um...before my time. The second is one or two winters ago, and is how it looks now. If I'm not gonna live in a hobbit dwelling, this comes pretty close to our dream house. We like small, cozy, and with a good inside flow for lots of people. We knocked out internal walls, and did some remodeling to make it more of a "great room" feel, and we like how it turned out. Still working on it, as is always the case with older houses.
The little house in back is a rental cottage built in 1928, and we have designs on the gutting the 680 sq. ft. interior, turning it into an open space floor plan, and living in it some day.
These house y'all are posting are nice! Cragman, your place is kind of phenomenal. Thought of putting it on the market as a possible retreat center?
Chief - cozy! Love smaller places like that.

@ Mooser.. I'm a big fan of the vintage bungalow-style house myself. I love cozy 20's- 30's houses with interesting architectural details and would totally dig living in a house like that. I'm a purist though... I'd put the original windows back and suffer the drafts and maintenance issues for the sake of aesthetics.
One of my favorite houses is the straw-bale house Mr.E's parents built on Guemes Island. Heck.. even the miniature guest house is a work of art. I'd just want to pick up the structures and move them to a warmer/drier location.
I'll try to find some pics...

Said the lady from Los Angeles, where drafty windows might be an issue once a decade. This is hardly the arctic, but unless your goal in life is to support the local gas or electricity company, drafty windows are a bad idea.
And having spent time in Mooser's house, I can vouch for the fact that it is a good place. A welcoming place. Despite not having drafty windows.

We are talking dream house here.. no one said it had to be realistic. In my fantasy house the old windows magically repel drafts. What can I say.. I'm a vintage window snob. ;) My guess.. there's some awesome vintage-repro insulated windows these days. .
Edit: Mooser.. Just nit-picking... I still love your house!

Actually putting mine on the market very soon….
Dean, that is a beautiful house. why are you selling it? I love the fireplace and the view. I like dramatic fireplaces. I once designed one that could be changed into a waterfall in the summer. A bit much, and never done, but thats the dream.
In my youth I designed my dream house, but realities having set it and now my dream house is one that I own. Given my circumstances, that is unlikely, but one can still dream. :-)

I lived in my dream home, complete with armed and friendly guard. Actually,

edit: It wasn't all that far from Ghost's dream home above.

Hoser, spectacular.
I have to admit, our little place in the woods is far preferable to the family homestead in the burbs of LA.

I gave up on the dream home concept to live more simply, and cannot imagine having a "dream home" now. Partly because I have an aesthetic that is pretty sophisticated. If I were investing in a home....oy veh, how to pay for what I would "dream up!"
If I were planning a dream home, it would quickly escalate in the way that happens to a newly engaged woman who is planning her wedding. They start out wanting "just a small, simple..." and within minutes it is HUGE and extravagant!

I have to admit a certain amount of envy for those who already live in their dream homes. Probably a good indication that you are living your ideal life. However, if money were no object, I'd had a hard time turning down this:

It's the -40C that gets me here. (Eman in Mongolia)
SOme nice home above. My wife and I are both in the market now. California and Southern France seem to get most of our attention.
