I think I'm pretty much living in my dream home, although turning the basement into something other than the mess it is right now is still part of the dream.

My dream home became a reality just a few years ago. My wife keeps picking on me to finish up some minor stuff, but I'm 99.9% done; except for some landscaping. The maintenance is already starting.

My dream home is anyplace that I share with my wife; I don't care if it's a bit small, as long as it's near the mountains and we can use the outdoors as our backyard.
I suppose my previous house of 19 years was a dream home, with a killer shop space, but it became too big once the kids left and I became a slave to the house. A favorite sign at a friends place said, "A spotless house is the sign of a wasted life." I no longer feel the need to spend my free time vacuuming, painting, mowing, etc for what?
This past summer, this was an amazing home, though perhaps a bit smaller than we would like long-term.
Even with the RV, I still couldn't escape doing a little foundation repair.
Our current abode above Boulder has everything we need, although a second bedroom would be nice. I'm not complaining though, far from it. The wealth of outdoor opportunities within a short drive makes anything here perfect for me. For now.

On land I like my little places in Santa Cruz and Bozeman.

My dream home is a round log cabin type place, in the hills. No cities.
Enough room for cats and a garden.
Edit: a VW van would do, too

The type of home doesn't matter much to me. What matters more is that it is somewhere near adventure... And hopefully a job too.

I don't know... which is rather strange. I lived in all kinds of habitations. Twice I lived in mansions, and I shudder at living in sullly's dream. :-) But I think maybe it's matter of where you're at in life.
I know one thing though, it has to do with light and beauty. How the light comes into the rooms.
And it shan't be alone in the middle of nowhere.
I did draw us a house and built a model of it, one might call that the dream house, but no. It would probably been a very beautiful house, but life changed and now I could sell it (the idea) and see it built, be proud of it but not wanna live there myself.
But I have a dream kitchen though. I made it too. Even drew every bloody stone on the floor so the pattern would be right. It's 355 sq ft and beautiful with big windows and a lot of working space. Both floor and countertops in a light gray limestone, with French cement-stones patterned into it. Very social place and great to cook in.
It now belongs to my ex-husband.
Maybe I don't know because I don't have a dream house. My work was to make other people's dreamhouses to them, and you get fed up with that too. I like very much where I live now, for the moment.

Would have loved a big wall home, but don't know if it's going to happen in my lifetime.
I love my home in Valley Center, CA but I've always wanted a little place in the hills or mountains of Santa Fe or Taos, New Mexico.

I'll add this;
To me, a house isn't a home until it has been lived in and loved. My dream home has property to roam, open space to garden, and potential for change.
I spend a lot of time thinking about homes and their space in my line of work, and far too many people go the route of a nice, easy house rather than a home that needs to be managed, and loved.
Don't go that route with a cookie cutter home that has everything you need, making it easy. Make it difficult. Love your home, make it better. Don't just treat where you live as a house, treat it as a home.

The location is more important than the house. I like your yard Chief, I assume that you are on the Wet Coast?
My dream house will be between Kaleden and Keremeos in the Okanagan/Upper Similkameen. Right now there is only a trailer on the land but a house should appear in 3 years or so. Time to get out of Dodge!

Not far from there in the Okanagan is my property way out in crown land, great well, almost off the grid except for electrical. Great wood heat with endless fuel, lots of deer, moose, bear, cougars, elk (just this month near our land). And a beautiful view!
The house that completes the home is old and half complete, but it does the job well!
