Russia would be better off with Hope Solo in goal.

I think Brazil has the toughest road to the finals and don't see them making it.
Belgium hasn't looked as good as expected and I think the US can play good against them.
France vs Germany should be good if they both win.
The Dutch have a good shot of going far, as does Argentina.

Gonna go out on a limb and predict Brazil, Germany, NL, and Argentina as the semifinalists. (Actually there's a good chance one or more will be upset of course, but it that they are the "teams to beat.")
From the semifinals to the championship of course any team can win, but I think NL could be this year's "team of destiny."

Brasil 3. Chile 1 Brasil will get some favorable calls, they are improving, and are the homers.
Oh, and they have some guy named Neymar. I think Maicon should have started in place of Hulk.

Colombia 2. Uruguay 0. This is an easy call. Forlan is way past his prime.

Take it to the bank!

I can't wait to see the teams line up in the tunnel and get paired with the little kiddies.
The looks on their faces are priceless. Did you see that Brasil game where Neymar bent over
and gave a big hug to his kid? OMG!

The other revelation of this World Cup is that I never knew that Gilbert and Sullivan wrote so
many national anthems for S American countries!

Edit:
Told you Maicon shoulda started in place of Hulk. And, for the record, I had meant to say at
the outset that I've always thought Julio Cesar average, at best. A good keeper woulda stopped that shot.

Not that impressed with Brazil in the 1st half. If they keep making defensive errors, Brazil could lose this game. IMO, Netherlands, Germany & Argentina look better than Brazil.

Agreed, I really think that they're mentally tight from the pressure in addition to just not being
that great a side. I am quite amazed at the lack of crowd encouragement. Chile will look
forward to a shootout as Bravo is far the better keeper.

Chile looks poised to me. I say they usurp.

That America sign above ("metric system ... moon") is funny. Go, Yanks.

Hulk has certainly made a mighty effort to make up for his gaffe but Neymar looks out of gas
and Oscar has been MIA. Jo has not had a quality touch and Ramires doesn't look worth
the substitution.

I'm watching on kind of a crappy stream so I could be wrong, but here's my take so far:
Brazil is significantly better, but it's 0-0 and likely headed for penalty kicks. Yay soccer: the world's greatest sport!! (sarcasm intended).
Either the diving is really bad or soccer is more dangerous than it looks--seems like someone is rolling around in agony (as if they've been tortured--I've never seen such looks of pain before!) a large percentage of the time. Usually a Chilean, but it seems like a few Brazilians are trying to get in on the act so the Chileans don't have all the fun.
I'm going to have to bet on Brazil if it goes to penalty kicks--they are the superior team, and the soccer gods will reward them.

Edit: it's going to penalty kicks now, anyone who sees this in real time should make sure to watch.
Sort of ironic that the great flaw in soccer (that many games in ties, often 0-0) leads to one of the few exciting parts (the shootout).

If you don't like soccer don't watch, or at least watch AND NOT post about how you don't like soccer.

Quite a game. No way Brazil wins the cup. Though they are still unbeaten!

Let's hope Colombia thrashes Uruguay for their support of Suarez, not that
I needed that to root for Colombia.

Suarez: "...I lost my balance."
As Alexi Lalas said, "Luis, just stop it."
Alexi, a pathological cheater and liar can't stop it.

Assuming Brazil wins their next match, I can't see them advancing past Germany. But who knows, anything can happen in the World Cup. How about Mexico and the USA advancing to the semis? That will be a great game.

Stimbo, Brasil may have to worry more about facing France. I think they will
give Deutschland all they can handle. This assumes they will get past Colombia.

Mexico has the proverbial two chances against Holland unless the ref buys
some of their flops. The US will give Belgium a better game than Germany got
from us.

And how come I never knew about Rossini writing Uruguay's national anthem?
It certainly bears a striking resemblance to the overture to, appropriately,
La Gazza Ladra, aka The Thieving Magpie.

Cahill's was far better. Fellaini's header was also amazing. James' is #3. Van Persie's #4.
