Ammo box with welded reinforced support at the pad lock region against bolt cutters works 100%.

Bolt it to the vehicle in such a way it's almost impossible to unbolt.

We've used these successfully .......

You don't hide the key with the vehicle at the trail head.

You hide the key back in the woods away from the vehicle.

You have to remember where you hid it though.

Stoners need not apply to this method ......

Are the Thule/Yakima roof boxes worth their hefty price tag? Would it just take them 22 sec rather than 2?

I had a Yak box for a long time...one good barehanded yank would rip that sucker open.

When I was in high school I wired up a automotive spark plug coil to the door handles.

I left it on and forgot to tell my mom.

She grabbed the door handle and got the sh!t shocked out of her.

You can do the same to your vehicle door handles if you know how ......

First thing is that my car is void of stickers, I usually open glove box and center counsel box so theif can see there is nothing in the car. It also tells them that I know they're lurking so took everything of value with me.

The things of value that I do have to leave in the car are usually under a floor mat, under a seat or under a pile of trashy looking junk of no interest.

Spare key is now carried with me but I used to hide it under something like a near by log but I am Uber strong (not really) so I man-up and carry it now.

Works for me even in the places with pieces of broken window glass covering the ground...and my car is never more than 3-4 years old.

Hope that helps!

Maybe 2 minutes with a hacksaw, seconds with a sawzall. As my dad used to say, "locks only keep honest people honest".

This is a good topic and worthy of discussion.

Having my car busted into/damaged/vandalized at a trailhead has always been a concern and has kept me away from a number of places in SoCal and Washington that I've wanted to visit. Fortunately I have not been a victim, but I've seen enough broken glass at TH parking lots.

Wow Ron, you had a gun stolen out of your car?

And left your guns under the seats and in the glove box of an unlocked car while getting quite buzzed in a hotel bar one night?

Tell us again about how Obama wants to punish RESPONSIBLE gun owners?

Hmmm, sounds like you repeated that one at least twice...

No big deal though. What's the worst that could happen?

We don't need more government telling us when and where we can leave our guns. We need more accountability from our leaders... but not ourselves!

forst time i wasnt drunk

second time

See there... you made a mistake (that was the "forst time")... then you went on to repeat that mistake... yet somehow, in that space between your ears, you convince yourself that you are a responsible gun owner and NEVER repeat mistakes like "those." (It is funny because, not sure if you knew this, but "those" is plural of that... meaning more than one.)

Fuking brilliant Anderson! How do you come up with these? It would be sad if I didn't know everything you say on here is intended to be as idiotic as possible, just for laughs.

i was SH#TE FACED

Oh, well then... that makes perfect sense... glad to see such a "responsible gun owner" taking responsibility for their actions and not blame their poor judgement on the effects of an addictive drug.

My car has 300,000 miles and looks its age. No one really wants to go near it or they feel sorry for me.

I'm only a shithead to those who are adamantly against gun regulation... yet leave guns within reach of criminals... and then blame their lack of judgement on being drunk. And I am not going out of my way in the least.
