This looks like a good chance for Apogee or one of the other chronic RIP crowd to post a RIP John Long fundraiser thread...

Dear fellow climbers. John Long requested that we make a brief statement regarding his accident that occurred on 11/29/12 at approximately 8:30pm. John wanted us to confirm that he fell due to an unfinished knot, and suffered a compound fracture to the lower left leg. The rest of the details of the accident are John’s to tell.

Here is a direct quote from John, “Thank you to the Rockreation staff
and members for keeping it together and not panicking in the face of a very scary situation. I consider it my best moment when I saw the gravity of the situation and was somehow able to keep it together and receive the support of the Rockreation Staff.”

Point one: I've been on the NET since the UNIX days, just us bitheads then. Around 20 years ago this thing started called AOL, and well yeah, American came online. Been like this thread ever since.

Point two: Consequently, everything you do online, and especially a fundraiser or similar, has to be approached, planned, and handled carefully. Or it will lose its intent and potential.

Point three: Everyone I know loves John Long, a bigger than life character, our own John Wayne, but funnier. :) Clearly a working guy, clearly hurt, clearly we want to help him. But, if some thought could go into not embarrassing him in the process that would be most considerate on our parts.

As has been said since the www was burgeoning, "please read back over your post, and think for a minute, before you hit "send."

Oftentimes it's fun to write a big flame and then just delete it rather than post it. Let's off some steam, but then doesn't lead to a bunch of wasted messages.

So who is going to hold the money if Russ and Chris are on the under-card?
(My money is on Russ bitch slapping Chris.)

Dontcha love it when Taco noobs show up without reading the topo first and have nothing but a rack of draws?

I might be a noob to this forum but, i can trade bitch slaps all day long. Maybe Russ and I could raise a dollar per slap but, somebody else will have to hold the money to give to John. Now enough of this high school behavior and lets get on with helping our friend Largo.

It's heartwarming to see the supertopo family rally around Largo so cohesively.

I'm sure when John reads this thread he'll be stoked and filled with our love!

It's nice to see things getting a bit ironed out!
I'm not being facetious with that.
We don't really have steerage yet, but we have an interim fund going.

Ricky said he would organize the spring party (fundraiser portion).
Maria is our industry connection if we want one.

Now we all know something more about the accident and some details about John's current progress.

If the chipin thing is no longer valid, then the link should be taken down. I just donated to it *before* reading to the end of this thread. So.. what's the deal?

Hey Forest, I just refunded your money. The chipin is still active for those wishing to donate. John knows about the fund and has endorsed it on Rock and Ice. Sorry for the confusion.

I'm in for $25. Least I can do after all the joy (and safety!) his work has given me.

Heal up quick, Largo!

Hey Dean....jsut read the first post you put up, noticed my name. Fer sure I'll be all in to help out, just give me the word and I'll start the wheels movin'. Timing may be a bit tricky on my end, I might be back in Colorado Springs for a spell end of April, beginning of May. Either Way I can do whatever needs to be done. We'll talk.
